I think house prices , like any other commodities on the market are overpriced because no one bothers to do it themselves . i want to learn how to do it myself and then take it from there

yes. I have an old copy of the Readers Digest Home handyman book. It contains everything you need to design a simple house and build it from scratch. It made it look so easy that this lady has considered doing it herself
It may still be in print but I'm sure there are old copies to be had everywhere

NO, not in layman's terms unfortunately but there are books that teach you in CLEAR terms how to do Everything but trial & error is the best, the best advice is be very prepared to learn from mistakes & take your time

if you need layman's terms i probably wouldnt recomend trying to build a house yourself...

Alternatively, start with lego and work your way up.
