I've seen some people's costomized desktops and sometimes they have like... little anime characters heads as the icon pic, instead of the original picture.

Like for example, instead of the little yellow folder, they have an anime face instead. Does anyone know how I can do that? I've always wanted to.

It's probably really obvious. But I can be clueless.

Assuming Windows XP

if the desktop icon is a shortcut
Right click on the folder/App,
press the change Icon button

otherwise ( the icon is not a shortcut )

Right click on the folder/App,
Select properties
click the customize tab
press the change Icon button

either select from the list shown, or browse to another file containing icons.( you can download these from somewhere )
the majority of Win Xp icons can be found in
C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll

Hope this helps

I never made an animated icon, but I've made a lot of ordinary icons. Try to use an icon editor or, if you have none and don't want to get one, use any image-editing program ("Paint" does a good job). Create a picture of 32X32 pixels and draw whatever you want to have in the future icon. When you're done, save the picture you created as a "Windows bitmap" but use the ".ico" extension.
Now open the folder you saved the picture in and look for your icon. If you see your icon in the folder, you made it. If you see a file named something like "filename.ico.bmp", rename it to "filename.ico".
Now go to the desktop, right-click the element you want to change the icon for, select the "Properties" command then, in the box that appears, click the "Change Icon" button and browse for your icon. Click "OK" in all boxes to close them.
That would be all. Good luck!

There are many ways to change an Icon.

Use Windows builtin:

Left click on Change Icon

Browse to find
C:\WINDOWS\system32\moricons.dLL

Just right click the mouse on the icons you want to change, then click "properties, then click the tab "change Icon ..." but you can only change to what Windows have.

http://www.magnisiummedia.com has freeware that can change your icons for be warned that without a premium account the download speed is slow enough that if you run windows xp you can run your defragmentor, the download, and play a solitaire game 5-15 times over and still not finish the download before the defragmentor completes.
