My hero was someone I got to watch everyday. I was in awe of the way she communicated so perfectly with people of all ages. People seemed to relate to her so well. She was always upbeat and positive, but kept high expectations on those she felt capable. She had an amazing sense of humor as well as a tender sensitivity. Her talents for acting were beyond compare. I could watch her on stage for hours. For years I grew up watching her perform....watching her grab the audience's attention and hold it tight all the way up to her final exit. People were awe of her........and I was certainly her number one fan.

I not only met her; I had the privilege of being her daughter. My mother was without a doubt......my hero. I pray she loved me and admired my attempts to be just like her. She loved that followed in her footsteps and always supported and helped me whenever I turned to her. I'd like to think she would always be proud of me.

I've realised I'm totally crap a meeting my heroes.

I actually missed the chance to talk to Douglas Adams, and the next thing I knew he was dead...so he'd probably call me a lazy bastard!

I met Billy Connolly once and gibbered like a moron. He asked me if I was alright!

Met Sandi Toksvig (Yes, she's a hero of mine!). She asked what I did for a living, I said I was a journalist, she frowned and said "Oh dear..."
I had to agree...

It's gonna be dreadful later this month - I'm gonna go meet Brian May, the Queen guitarist who gave music to my rocking childhood....terrific... another chance to make myself sound like a moron!

I did.

First he made fun of me because I threw my hand over my mouth and went "OMG it's him." And he was like, "OMG it's me."

Then when we had our moment to chat, I think he thought, "Look at all these people behind you. I have signed your book, you got your picture. Now move along."
