The "Best laptop" for you is going to depend on what you're going to use it for.
In anycase, I've had great experiences with 4 different Dell laptops over the last 10 years. Goto www.dell.com, choose laptops, and then choose the one that fits your needs and budget.
Have a nice day!

CnetTV is a great site to watch Videos of products
check the and do a search for different laptops and see what they say about it.
With Budget Laptops you will find that it will get outdated very quick and if you like playing games they are very limited and you will find that some games wont work

DELL has consistently scored high on consumer reports, plus they are quite flexible with your hardware needs.
For our own organization where we inherited several "systems", IBM and DELL have been the least troublesome.
Compaq gets the nod for being the most, followed closely by Toshiba
Although for your budget of 880, you might try looking at homegrown shops in India.

Dear,
The best laptop available in the markets are;
1.HP
2.Packard Bell. ( Holds the European Market/Europes largest selling Laptops)
3.Apple/Mac ( Mac OS/not for windows )
I suggest u to buy apple mac laptop with the latest released Operating Sytem ( OS ) Leopard the best one ever.
(Apple mac doesnt supports windows operating systems )
In INDIA try the above mentioned companies showrooms for genuine ones.Your budget wont hold any of the above mentioned laptops dear but it depends on you according to the laptop features.Good ones will cost much.As u know that apple/mac,HP & Packard Bell are costly ones.

I would get a Toshiba. They are a little pricy, but well worth it. Sorry, I do not know about any companies in India. Do you have Best Buy stores there? Best Buy is really good - they have the best deals and good cust. serv.

Good value laptops
(that also offer some entry level/budget models):
FUJITSU (LifeBook) - higher $
HP
ASUS
ACER (TravelMate)
TOSHIBA
CPU: Pentium M or Core Duo
Both offer good power management therefore longer battery life.
(Core Duo2 is still too pricy for your budget)

i had to raise the bar a little bit in order to accomodate u'r feeling of getting outdated in 2 yrs time
processor: intel core 2 duo is simply awesome !
4 mb l2 cache is great even for desktops, now imagine you having it on u'r notebook
ram is 512 mb in single slot, so u can add another 512 mb at a later date, should u need to
your system has external console, allowing u to view snaps, hear music & see dvd flicks., without even booting windows
truelife display improves viewing & its worth it
have added dvd writer too, should u need to
>> i chose a 14.1" wide screen, cause it is just about perfect for portability, any bigger & it looses out on portability
12.1" still better, but then price becomes too steep
>> my best configuration for you, all round !
