Our old Epson Stylus 62 has died and I want to know if we should go a for colour laser instead of a new inkjet?

We only used the inkjet infrequently and it was always clogging up.
The quality as a result was pretty awful and of course replacement carts are V expensive.

Do more modern inkjets have the same problem ?
Would a laser have a similar problem?

We dont print photos. Only text and simple graphics.

If a laser looks like the winner - any recommendations?

Yeah go for it... a colour laser can be bought pretty cheaply these days although the cartridges might be a little expensive but you can always just print in black unless you definitely need to print in colour...!!

Colour lasers are expensive to buy and cheap to run, inkjets vice versa. If you only use the printer infrequently as you say, the cost per printed page (if you consider the total cost of ownership) may be quite high for a laser. Also, inkjets actually produce better quality images.

I use a fairly heavy duty B&W laser for text and other routine stuff where colour doesn't matter, and then a high quality colour inkjet (Canon PIXMA i4000R, which networks wirelessly) for the pretty pictures. Total purchase cost of the two printers is less than of a good colour laser.

Well, you would probably get up to a half million prints on a laser...
lifetime on a inkjet runs about 2,000 before the jets get clogged, ink wells that are half filled upon retail purchase ofthe new unit, are empty...

Yes, you get what you pay for!!!

Recommendation, get the most you can afford! Resale value is there. But, I see some under $200!

Go for the laser if your budget allows and the get the best for your money, HP, Epson, canon, etc. Inkjets 'eat' ink and cost a fortune, whilst on the other hand lasers don't, simple, good luck :)

Colour Laser is coming in to its own. Inkjet is getting too expensive. So go for Laser, it's the future.

Colour Printers are pretty cheap these days.

To reduce the overall price of cartridges go for ones that can refilled.

WHSmith and some of the major computer retailers also sell their own cheap version of cartridges.
