Hey, "Meg" is not related to internet speed ,actually it is unit of data , as 1 Meg = 1 mb, you must be well known to MB its is same as Meg.

A bit is a single bit of information, a byte is 8 bits of information. dialups used to be 300 (teletypes) 14400 (for fax machines), 56kbps for dialups (or some dial up modems could connect at 110kps

so very crudely an 8 Megabit connection could deliver around 1 megabyte of data in a second, hwoever its not quite as easy as that you have to take into account the communicatin protocol and wahts called handshaking, which knocks off around 15% of the theoretical capacity of the communications channel, and assuming that there are no corrupotions or repeat messages in the data stream.

however thats not neccesarily correct to assume that an 8mbs will deliver 8megabits in a second - your connection is rationed by 2 factors (other people usign the ADSL connection in your locale (most telcos allocate capacity according to demand)
you are not always gettign full service formt eh ISP or place you are downloading the data from. So you 8megabit connection is communicating with the netwrok at 8mps, but is only getting 2..6 megabits of data at best because of constraints imposed by the
telcos and the ISP(s)

I always found it easier to understand as a water pipe, if you increase the pipe size you can squeeze more water through the same network if the pipe is running at full capcity, but the telcos syphon off some of that capacity with other conenctions, and the ISP's dont always put at much water as possible into the pipe.

megabyte. And megabyte is the measure unit of the amount of information (you see it in your file sizes for example - kilobyte KB, gigabyte GB). And when related to the speed of internet connection it simply tells how much information is being transfered per second. MB/sec. I'm not a computer wizard, but I hope that made sense :).

meg is short for mega which means million. in relation to internet, meg as in megabits is the rate at which data, in terms of bits or bytes, is transfered. 1 megabit/sec means 1 million bits per second. megahertz is terms of frequency. a hertz is 1 cycle per second. a megahertz is 1 million cycles per second.

If your refering to a computer term its short for megabites, a computer term of space, or a mesurement of information, (usally in units of 2 e.g. 512mb + 512mb = 1024 GB (1000 megs = 1Gb gigabite)
