I'm sure this varies greatly per person, but I'm just curious how long until my cycle returns to normal. I'm still nursing my 11 mth daughter about 3-4 times a day; if I continue like this can I keep it off indefinitely? Also, if you have already weaned your child, can you tell me if you experienced mood swings as a result? I read that might happen once you stop breastfeeding out loud from my baby book and my husband said no worries, I couldn't be any moodier than I already am LOL. But seriously, did you feel different after stopping completely?

Mine came back after I quit breastfeeding i can't remember how long but within the month. Enjoy it while you can. I wasn't any moodier than a normal tired mom would be. I think it depends on the person, hormones and all.

I got my first period 6 weeks after having the baby and breastfed? Everyone is different and some don't get it for a year or more. And I had a heck of a time breastfeeding because of inadequate supply, so I was a bit of a crazy person when I was drying up more because it seemed like everywhere I turned for information said every woman can breastfeed so why cant I. So maybe without all the extra pressure I put on myself, maybe I would not have had mood swings?

With my first baby my cycles did not return until I stopped breastfeeding COMPLETELY. And now with my second at 16 months, we're down to only 2 feeds a day, one morning and one night - and my cycles still aren't back. My gynae told me some women are just really sensitive to the breastfeeding hormones. I didn't get mood swings when I stopped the last time, but just was a little sad that the b'feeding relationship had to end (in order to start trying to conceive again). It is such a special thing and will never return until your next baby!

Not indefinitely. When you stop nursing it will come back. When you're nursing, your body's hormones are almost like when you were pregnant, (Not as high of hormones as when you were pregnant), so while you nurse, you won't menstruate until you stop. Sure there is mood swings. But nothing significant. You may have a separation anxiety as well. Congrats on your baby, (Even though the birth was almost a year ago.)LOL...you will start (if you haven't already), to experience the active mode, of your daughter. When she starts to walk she gets into more and you get a lot of exercise chasing her....you may already have that...they get independent and don't want to be picked up. Enjoy. Take care.

I breastfed for 14 months. I got my period around 8 months in...but I think that this was because I had been pumping at work since she was 7 weeks. Pumping is way less efficient than the baby so my supply was steadily dropping. It might have been longer if I had been able to nurse her at every feeding instead of pump. I didn't experience mood swings that I noticed (my husband might disagree :-) ). But I tapered off my supply over a couple of months to avoid engorgement.

I got my period 3 months after birth with my first and 3 weeks with my son..No much of a break, considering everyone who told me a year..ha ha ha
OH and remember you can still get pregnant while nursing. I was nursing my daugher while I was pregnant, for 2 months. just my milk supply went down alot, but I was only nursing her at night then...

It depends on how often you are breastfeeding--and it is NOT affected by breast pumping. Here's a link with more information about ecological breastfeeding: http://ccli.org/nfp/ebf/index.php. This means putting off fertililty while breast-feeding (if you do it, it is about 98% effective for the first six months after birth--just as effective as birth control, but totally healthy and no foreign chemicals in your body).

Well I've never stopped completely (I'm tandem nursing my toddler and my infant) but my cycles did come back with some regularity at 11 months PP. I'm 4 months PP currently and no sign of AF.
