My friend came to my place for a swim. I always swim topless, and she decided to try it too. We were alone and no one can see my pool area from the outside. But when her Mum found out she freaked that my friend would be "so immodest". As punishment, she made my friend go a whole day wearing nothing but a pair of panties, in front of her family and some of her parents friends that came over. Go figure? If her Mum was so upset at her going topless, in a private place, why make her go topless in a more public place? She wasn't all that embarrassed, except in front of her Mum's friends, and it all seems a bit wierd. At 16 shouldn't she and I be able to decide what is appropriate to wear and when?

As you probably know from your own experiences, many people in our world are still incredibly uptight about any aspect of nudity. To them, it's considered anything from "dirty" to "vulgar" to even "criminal". What I find so sad is that nudity is nothing more than bare skin, and to show it in appropriate places and situations (and swimming topless or nude in your pool is certainly appropriate!) should be no big deal.

Your friend's Mom's reaction was absolutely over the top and really bordered on cruelty. Besides attempting to embarass your friend, she definitely made herself (the Mom) look really mean and heartless. I'm glad that your friend was able to handle it so well, but she shouldn't have been treated that way. If her Mom was upset by her daughter being topless, she could have spoken to her about it, shared her feelings, and listened to her daughter's ideas on it.

My parents are the same way, though. I'm 21 and they still disapprove of my going to the nude beach or swimming nude with friends in their pools. I guess that's just the way their generation thinks about getting naked.

So many people still equate simple nudity as sexual acting out or exhibitionism, which as you know is not true in most cases. Nudity can be sexual, of course, but it frequently isn't. Sensual always, but not sexual. People need to remember the difference.

I agree with you that a 16 year old girl should have the freedom to show or cover as much of her body as she wants, as long as it's in an appropriate place for an appropriate reason.

Simple nudity is fun and feels great, and it's our generation that's bringing about its acceptance...slowly but surely.

Bare hugs...

Why did her mom make her go topless? I'm a parent & it's my opinion that it’s because this mom has some major psychological problems.

This sounds really abusive – sexually abusive. Forcing a 16 year girl to go only in her panties for a day in front of family, & friends who happen to be over. Personally I’d report this to Social Services. Perhaps they would talk to this mom who obviously needs some help. Where was the dad when this was going on? I’m glad your friend handled this okay. She sounds like the one with her act together & is the mature one in this family.

That s too bad. It sounds like she started in the beginning to accept her body and go topless, only to have that ruined by her mother s forcing.

I am actually a nudist, but I would never force anyone else to partake in that. I think my daughter was about 14 when she decided to start baring her breasts, and by the time she was 15, she decided to be naked full-time. Being nude has increased her self-confidence and help her build trust with friends and family. But it should never be forced, and I feel really badly for your friend .

As a sidenote, my husband, her stepdad, was fine when she was topless, but when she removed all of her clothing, he was concerned that she might be too vulnerable with her vagina exposed, especially with people coming in and out of the house all day (we run a small business). So he takes extra precautions to protect her, and overall it has been a very positive experience.

That mom is a nut case and that i have self belief she will be charged with some form of sexual abuse for making her daughter bypass topless in the front of human beings. in spite of the indisputable fact that, at 16, neither of you ought to be going topless. you're too youthful and nonetheless no longer legally considered adults. At 16, your father and mom are nonetheless to blame for you, inspite of ways grown up and mature you sense.

I agree it was very bizarre and hardly an appropriate way to treat a young adult especially, as you say, there were only the two of you!

You are right, your friend should have the choice. Her mother was out of line completely, sounds like a real ***** 2 me.

Her mother was probably brought up in a prudish family where nudity was discouraged.
I reckon her mum will have learned more from this than you imagine!!

That is a bit extreme. Are you sure this story is real?

Her mum's friends must be pretty embarrassed if it were real.
