Hi guys,

I'm 16. I have a debit card. I went to a porn website and used it to buy a trial thingy for £1.63. A few days later, I find the website has charged me an extra £16.57. I can't tell my Dad or my bank. I know this is a lesson for life, but what should I do?

Yes using a debit card/credit card banks will let you overdraw, so they can collect more money from you, some banks have a strick policy usually credit unions, other banks have a set limit on what they allow to be overdrawn. My bank will let me overdraw $600, and they will give me 24 hours to pay it back, or they will charge me $35 dollars. I used to have Chase bank they could let me over draw $150 and they would automatically charge me the $30 or $35 I don't remember plus $5 a day. Many banks have the overdraft protection, it's basically a savings account attached to your checking and if you have no money in the savings then that doesn't help you much, they will charge whatever you withdrew plus the overdraft fee, plus the $7 fee because you didn't have money in your savings account (hince why I left them) They were charging fees upon fees upon fees, they didn't care if you overdrew 2 cents. But all banks are different in some way.

I would go to the bank and dispute the charge and have the card hot listed. So they can not charge it again. If it did really say $1.63. That all they are allowed to charge. I am surprised the charge went through because debit card for minors are usually restricted for adult purchases. Just explain you problem to the banks customer service in person and they might waive the overdraft charge. They may also tell you it illegal for a minor to view porn. Be prepared. They may tell your parent.

Something similar happened to me once, not with a porn site, but with a job search site (also a scam, but I won't go into the details here). I signed up for the trial service to see if the site was genuine or bogus. I cancelled my subscription after five days (before the seven day cut-off where I'd be charged for full membership). Two days later I received a PayPal receipt for $29.99 for membership to their site. After several emails to the company and filing a complaint with PayPal, I was finally refunded and requested proof that my subscription had been cancelled so I wouldn't be billed again.

Some of these sites have automated payment systems. Be careful to read all of the terms of service before signing up. Contact the site and dispute the error, and then inform your bank that this charge was not authorized. It may take some foot work, but you don't want this site to continue to bill you.

well that was a pretty stupid thing to do. sell anything you have to and pay it off. talk to bank, and discontinue card immediately so they cannot continue chargeing you. make sure bank understands number has been stolen block all charges.

back to stupid thing to do..... porn sites must be concidered to be crime sites. don't do business with any of them. period. there is very little you can get from a pay for porn site that is not available free. why would you pay? oh cause yr sixteen and don't know any better, now you do. you are lucky you didn't get hit for more. what is that, 30 bucks US? good luck with this.

Always read the fine print at the bottom of any thing before you buy. but let this be a learning lesson for you. just buck it up pay for it and don't do it again. by the way be prepared when you tell your dad for him to take away the card.

with most banks your don't get charged interest on your overdraft if it's under £30 and your shouldn't get a charge either. i also think that they aren't allowed to authorise bank charges to under 18's. don't worry next time money is deposited into your account it will be cleared.

You had better watch that they don't take anymore money, sometimes these things are a con to get you to give them you bank details, then they will continue to take out money from you account.

Deposit money in your account immediately! Borrow from a friend if you have to -- or sell a couple CD's or something. Good luck.
