I have the IUD and love it. I haven't gained or lost any weight. I went to the dr and told him what I wanted and then had a pap/pelvic, went back in a week later and had it put in. It took less than half an hour. My sex drive is great and hasn't affected it at all. When I first got it the string was stiff, but after a couple days the string began to soften and curl up. You don't feel like you have a tampon in all the time. You can't feel the string during sex. It lays next to the penis. I am on the Mirena (its good for 5 years) and I haven't had my period for about a year and half. the dr says that is normal. You are suppose to check it once a month to be sure it isn't falling out, but that is the only time I can feel it. The day I got it I was very crampy. I bleed for 9 weeks after i got it. it wasn't like a heavy bleed just spotting for most of it. It is a GREAT birth control. I would recommend it to any one! Hope I could help!

How did it feel when you got it and can you still feel it inside you? a lil discomfort but taking ibuprofen would help with that
Also it says a string hangs out. NO it dosent hang out your vagina just out your cervix
And how do you go about getting it. I got it inserted at my 4 week Post-deliver check up. They usually have to order it ahead of time so it may take 4-6 weeks
How many appointments did it take you and how long did it take to put it in. It took tops 5 min for the whole procedure if that! Just 1 appointment
. Does the IUD make you gain weight or loss your sex drive? NOPE not at all promise ;)
They recommend it for women who have had at least 1 child because
1. a woman who has had a full term pregnancy has a slightly larger cervix an the chances of it being expelled are less
2.You run a small chance of becoming infertile.
They do not cause infections! They make infections harder to treat so its recommend you be in a serious committed relationship.
The only side effects I had where mild spotting the 1st 3 months and after that an absences of period but thats a plus LOL

Though I can give you explanation as far as what I know based on my professional practice, you may not be convinced so I asked my sisters- in -law to give you specific information on this.
This is based on what they said: Nothing much felt but some degree of discomfort during its insertion which is done in a simple and fast procedure. Just seem to feel awkward at the start for the first few days till they got accustumed to it where they could not actually feel that there is something inside. When trying to check to feel if it is in there they need to feel the strings which is actually not a long thing hanging out, infact they have to get to know where it is.IUD is embedded in the uterus and not in the vaginal canal so it won't feel like having tampons. It doesn't take many appointments. Just an appointment or two but it is inserted preferably on the third day of your menstrual period for the reason being the cervical os open on that period so it will facilitate the insertion of the device making it less painful. It is not that painful according to my sister's in law. (By the way they have used it for some time, had it removed when they planned to have another baby, and put it on again months after delivery.)
Removal is much easier and faster than the insertion without anything to fear, just a little discomfort. It didn't have any effect on the weight nor sex drive. The only thing is that it makes changes of the vaginal pH sometimes but a vinegar douche easily solves the problem. Generally, they said it won't give any unusual or strange feeling apart from occasional cramps feeling on the abdomen and to some extent a little back pain. It makes having sex without any difference as they claim. For both of them, IUD has been effective in contraception so far.
I guess your doctor has already explained important points about it. Hope it gave you some points you wanted to know.

I have the Mirena. I have had 5 kids so having it put in was a breeze for me. The strings do not hang out of the vagina just the cervix. At first I was constantly checking the strings to make sure it was still in. Now I check them once a month like the Dr suggested. I discussed having the IUD placed at my annual appoint. Dr did cultures and then my next appointment he placed it. I went back in a month for a follow up. No changes as far as weight or sex drive. I love it my periods are very light.

I have four children and I carried an IUD for like ten years before getting it removed to have my fourth and last child. the type i wore before i decided to have a fourth , was the multi load and it was very nice, comfortable and i never felt a thing when i had it on. now i have the copper T type and i still feel the same way i felt when i had the previous. It is only one appointment and it has to be during or few days after your menstration. just talk to your doctor, get your appointment and he will get it done with in five minutes. it is safe and convinient. I am a size twelve!

Well, from what I can acquire kind others have instructed me, and from what I have enjoy myself on it. It'll both be the great factor you've gotten ever performed, or a entire failure. Some females, like myself, had a nasty response to it. You are meant to possibly spot for approximately 6 weeks, however I bled like I had my interval for three entire months. By the tip, I was once significantly anemic, and built a rash from having to put on pads always. Also, my husband and I shouldn't have intercourse whilst I "bleed," so if it is target was once to quit perception through abstinence, it labored nice! Honestly, I'm blissful I a minimum of attempted. For a few females, it is potent, sensible BC. For others, it isn't so well. Good good fortune, and I desire it really works out for you! **edit** Um, yeah, it harm ALOT while it was once getting in. They needed to dilate my cervix greater than common to get it in on the grounds that it is "tilted" or a few such nonsense. However, I've not ever had a child. If you could have, I'm certain it is going to be not anything however rainbows and sunshine in comparison to giving beginning! Also, the ache most effective lasts a couple of mins, whilst they placed it in. Then, it is all long past. No significant deal.

I had an IUD for about three weeks - I don't think my doctor should have put one in because I've never had kids, but he did. It absolutely hurt like h*ll when he put it in - (first he clamps you open like during a regular pelvic exam, then he takes a smaller clamp and clamps open your cervix)
then after he finally put it in I passed out from the pain -after regaining my senses I finally hobbled out of the doc's office and went home - I was already out of work at that time on medical leave and it was a good thing because I could not have worked being in that much pain -
three weeks later when it was still hurting I went back to the doc and had him take it out -
he told me that there was a string and that if I used my fingers and tried to feel it I could, but I was in so much pain that couple of weeks that I never tried to feel it.
It hurt coming out but the relief from the pain was definitely worth it
I was told that it usually is not that bad (my friend works at the doc's office), but she also said that they usually don't put them in women who haven't had children. I guess mine was the "worst case scenario", but then again that's my kind of luck
