Well, I don't agree that history always repeat itself. Most of the times yes, but not always, so I don't think that someone can predict what will happen next. Of course everyone can make guesses but not true predictions based on well based facts.
As for the politicians, what do they care about history... Or to put it this way, they care only for their own history and what mark they'll make and of course how much money they'll make.

Predictions are based on the outcome of similar events in the past. But you can't predict with 100% certainty. One small difference can lead to a completely different outcome.
I think a reason politician keep repeat the same mistakes over and over is because they believe they can do better that what happened in the past.

Yes, history repeats itself because each generation must learn life's lessons on their own. You cannot inherit the wisdom of your father nor your grandfather. History books can only record the events, not the motivation of the participants. Nor can history record the human tragedy of war.
You will never learn that fire will burn your hand unless the stove is turned on from time to time.

I think politicians do learn from history, but voters don't seem to.
Voting for the lesser of two evils got us where we are now. It isn't going to get us out of it.

Yes, that is the thing. If don't learn from history, you are bound to repeat it. Good point.
