No, no, no. You've got it all wrong.
When the clocks go back at the end of this month, we are putting them back to where they *should* be. It is *now* that we are running on "Daylight Saving" time. So what you really mean is "Should we put the clocks forward next Spring?"
The real reason that we do it is very simple. As the name suggests, it is to save daylight.
Most people get up between 06:00 and 08:00 and go to bed at between 22:00 and 00:00. If in the summer, it gets light at 04:00 and gets dark at say 20:00 and very few people are up at 04:00 to enjoy the daylight but most are up at 20:00 where they could use it, wouldn't it make sense to move an hour of light from the morning to the evening?
So that's why they put the clocks forward, so that 05:00 becomes 06:00 and 20:00 becomes 21:00 - so it's light an hour longer in the evening.
In the winter, it's dark both when we get up and when we go to bed, so there's not much point in doing it, but because most people prefer to wake up in daylight, we put the hour of light back in the winter so that it's lighter in the morning.

Daylight saving also saves us about 5% on the light bill. But now that we're on daylight saving time for 6 months of the year (more next year!!), it really makes sense to just stay on it all year round and not change the clocks at all.
I say pick one or the other and stop the shennanigans.

No, we should leave them alone. I think one of the reasons is because the farmers in Scotland need the extra hour of daylight, but Scotland dont even want to be a part of England so we should rule it out if that is the biggest reason. I like the extra hour in bed, but dark at 5pm is a big no no. We should all boycott it.

You should put the clocks back today. Taking them in the first place was very naughty of you, I've been late for work every day since they went!

its just one of those things that's set in stone, and if you don't change your clock you will be an hour late for everything for the next 6 months

I think they should keep summer time all year round. I wish europe would do the same so that western europe would have the same time as South Africa all year round
