I have Goodyear Wrangler SR-A (245/65 17) on the front and am wondering if i can put Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor on the back. they are the same size, just basically different tread designs. Will this have an effect to my Suv in any way?

yes but make sure you have the right size on the front. dont buy wrangler because your buying the name. kelley springfield has just as good rubber as goodyear for less.use the 17 on the front and maybe 20s on the back but keep spares of both in your car or truck just in case of a flat.and dont try to smoke the rears because the increased size may play havoc on you tranny and engine.no effect on your suv unless its a small type suv.putting different size tires on the rear can cause your ride to bounce when driven fast on a bumpy road and may cause control problems

No genuine existence drawbacks holiday may be somewhat stiffer up front for a 40 sequence tire. Speedometer would be off with the aid of an exceptionally minor %, yet no longer adequate to be conscious or get a cost tag except you're going over 100mph or so.

You can have different size tires installed on different axles but the pattern should be the same. You will increase the oversteer or understeer of the car if the grip pattern is different. Under stressed condition (e.g if you hit a slippery patch) the different 'grippiness' of the tires may cause the car to behave in an unexpected and dangerous manner.

there may be a handling problem. different treads grip the road differently, thus causing steering difficulty.its always best to stay with the same design for this reason- especially on suv's

not until one of them goes flat - then you better hope you have the correct spare for the flat. front to rear doesn't matter, but driver's side and passernger's side does, so you'd have to keep 2 spares in your vehicle - kind of pointless if you ask me, if you haven't bought the tires yet, i'd suggest just getting the same you have on the front otherwise you'll need to buy 3 anyway.

having one design of tyres on the front and another design on the rear shouldn't effect the vehicle. having one design on the driver's side and another on the passenger will effect handling
