happiness.

Oh fine, I'll give you a long answer.

To ask, what is the meaning of life, you must first understand what meaning implies. Life, whatever it is, can only have meaning because you think or want it to have meaning. So, why is it that you want it to have meaning?

To lessen the burden, let us take a look at the majority of people's opinions on this matter in order to gather a collective beliefs of wants or thoughts.

The instinctive desire of all human beings is happiness, satisfaction, a good which once obtained leaves nothing else to be wanted, and if anything was missing from this, it couldn't be perfect because there would be something that could be longed to obtain. So it is clear that true happiness is the combination of all good things.

Some people want wealth so they can supply their wants and needs. Others want politial power in order to change the world. Others want fame in order to be well known, and still others enjoy sensual pleasures. Throughout all this, every man considers whatever he desires to be the supreme good, but since all men want happiness, goodness and happiness are identical. The two words have different meanings but the same substance.

That being said, the instinctive goal of all men is happiness, which can be achieved through a variety of good actions. However, not all good or happy things lead to true happiness, and the reason for this is that man confuses the ends and means in his progress towards the true good. For example, collecting wealth but not freely spending it does not make a man rich but instead buries him in his obscure fear of losing the money he has gained. Political power can not give a man might over his enemies or himself if every decision he makes leads him to be more despised. Fame is not beneficial if it leads to being unpopular. If 1 million people love you because of your fame, but ten million people hate you because of your fame, then you are not achieving your goal, you are instead achieving a well-known status of being placed in contempt. Sensual pleasures too are contradictory when the agreeable meal or sexual lust turns into a sickness or disease.

So, all men want happiness, but not all men achieve happiness. Why? because happiness by nature is one and undivided, and when a man tries to achieve this in parts he can not gain the whole. For instance a man who wants wealth to be powerful but does not freely spend his money is not powerful but is being cautious when a similar man might spend and enjoy his money more freely.

So, what is true happiness? We already said that true happiness is the combination of perfect good. So if there is any imperfection visible in any class of things, then there must be a proportion of perfection, for if you do away with perfection, it is impossible to imagine that which is held to be imperfect could exist.

This perfection is commonly called God, but let's look at this word in more detail. The supreme God, if we can call it that, must be filled with complete and total goodness. Otherwise something would possess more power than him and be more perfect in some way. But if we can agree that the true God is to the highest degree filled with supreme and perfect enlightenment, then he must be good, for anyting that has no superior is in its own right good.

now, to add to this we must make some necessary conclusions. Namely, that since he is all powerful, his goodness can not be seperate from him, nor can something else have given him his goodness. If it was a borrowed pride, then the giver would be superior to the receiver, but this is not the case for the supreme God. So it is obvious that this supreme God created itself out of its own nature. This is clearly a property of divinity, because nothing else could come out of nothing, except a supreme source that can not have any origin older than itself. An easy way to look at it is, if God had a mother, that mother would be God, but since God is the supreme, he must have created himself in such a way that he had always existed. So that his existence is inherent in reality. It must be the case that he is reality itself.

Finally, just as justice makes a man just, and wisdom makes a man wise, so divinity must make a man divine. So anyone who participates in God's divinity necessarily becomes divine.

But how is this possible? Well, we stated that the supreme God must be reality itself, becasue nothing could have come from out of reality to create it. So, since reality is the utmost real existence which includes life as we know it and anything beyond, God must also be truth. Complete and total truth.

So, a man who is honest with himself and speaks the truth from the bottom of his heart and soul, necessarily becomes divine.

So the purpose of life we already stated was to seek happiness, and that happiness is in fact goodness, so if God is the supreme good, then he must also be the supreme happiness, so that the end and goal of all things, and the whole to which nature is directed, is to achieve perfect happiness, but since we stated that God is perfect happiness, then the meaning of life must be to become God.

Peace.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

The more you write, the more you lose of spirit...!
We live in order to survive. This is the foremost. All live organisms seek survival.
Then, we have the space surrounding us, full of other forms. We need take care of them to enhance our survival. Inferior life forms help superior life forms and reinforce them. But as we're being helped out, in the same way we've got to help them survive.
Thus we have 8 urges :1) ourselves(take care of),our immediate family,(take care of),3) our friends,4)mankind,5)plants and animals,6)matter-energy, 7) self as a truly
educated human being, and last the infinity.
This is in brief the meaning of life. Let anyone get its meaning at will!!!

Everyone has their own meaning of life. It depends on your background, priority, need etc. The way of thinking is the main drive of the meaning of life. Spiritual, philosophical person has a different meaning then the practical, money minded, achievers.
Overall I can say meaning of life is, a balanced living, which harmonises with the society, nature, mankind and the need of all these. One should give and take. One sided thinking is harmful.
Happiness is in the mind and not in the materials of life. (like house, car, money...... etc.)

Is any religious theme necessary for your essay?

Basically, a human without God will find life meaningless at some point in his life because life becomes routine: work, play, home, raise kids, work, play, home, work, play, home...

Why do we exist in the first place? Ask yourself, what's the purpose of the existance of the knife? To cut things. How about the car? To bring people around. A CD player? To play CD. How do we know? That's what they were created for.

So how about humans? What are we created for? (If you believe in Jehovah God, then it is easy to say).

We were created to know God and to follow Him. God has plan for each of our lives and when we know what it is and we do it, life becomes meaningful because we are fulfilling our purpose. A knife will never be purposeful if left in the cupboard or if you use it for decoration.

We will only know our true purpose when we know God.
