Why not? Sparing a brute can get you many more brutal acts. Moreover the kind offense is determined by the court of law and based on that capital punishment is designed.

I do not advocate death punishment, as a matter of routine. Supreme Court of India has considered the issue. It should be on the rarest of the rarest occasions. Presently there is a plea for showing leniency to Afzal in Parliament attack case. Is this not one of the rarest of the rarest occasions, warranting death penalty. He has not shown any contrition. Only his relations are pleading for mercy. This is a terrorism related crime. Any leniency will send a wrong signal to the terrorists. The person convicted cannot go unpunished.

NO. Not becasue I thnk it is wrong to kill, i don't. In fact I have no problem with killing. I oppose it becasue it gives some people the authority to kill and places the executionor above the law. If killng is Illegal, then they shouldn't be allowed to do it either. You can't have the punishment for breaking a law having the same thing done to you. That is nothing more than legalized revenge disguised as justice. Either everyone can do it, or no one can, not even the state.

Yes.
That is the only thing thats puts fear in the people, particularly terrorists.
Else , we have seen Kandhahar. Hijack or Kidnap a Ministers son/daughter, the terrorists will be free.
We are already seeeing the voilence in the valley on the announcement of the death sentence. Terrorist find it easy to fan the fire now.
However, if a person is convicted by Supreme court, the same shall be honoured.
We are no one to question the same.

Yes I do, to a degree. I feel if a guy rapes a girl, and hurts her physically, then he should be tortured before death. Since our government doesn't agree with that, then I feel free to rape all the women I want. All the government will do is stick me in a cell, so I can relinquish and enjoy all my memories of raping and killing. (See what I mean?) If my daughter got raped, I'd put my own death penalty on the guy, I've already lived my life, so the death penalty I would impose on the rapist, and I personally would carry it out, wouldn't matter to me as to the outcome of MY penalty.

No, The punishment must go through his / her mind regarding what they did wrong to the individual or society and make them to realise the wrong so that they should not repeat in future. Above that nobody should have the right to take anyone's life which we can not give back by anyone in the world

Punishments imposed will show the culture of the society. Modern civilised societies therefore should not have death penalty in their statute books. The way the society punishes, one can measure its maturity and tolerance.

Anyone who would condone any crime and allow someone the possibility to continue their behavior or influence others are a weight on humanity.
Certainly nobody would believe that killing someone for killing someone, eye-for-an-eye justice is sane but what if someone killed 3/5s of the world's population? Would you put them in prison until they were paroled or ended their prison term to continue their work? Would you sentence them to life without parole where they could still convert others to their zealous dream or simply kill as many prisoners as they had the power to? Would you lock them in Solitary until they escaped and resumed their crimes? Would you bury them in the earth with the technology to truely securely isolate them? Aren't you just being more cruelly wasteful than killing them at that point?
Kind of extreme? What if they just killed half a dozen people in their life when they were put in a situation they couldn't navigate a better solution but feel totally justified in their actions and advocate others do what they must survive uncompromisingly? Can we let someone like this return to civil life? can we allow them to influence others who will return to civil life? I don't think it can be said we can in all circumstances.
There are crimes we cannot be corrected by imprisonment
