Well assuming that you need reasons on why they shouldn't however unreasonable it may seem:
1. You want to discourage females from taking up the job. This can be because you feel that males are physically better suited for the job, even if there are exceptions, doing so will help to eliminate those you don't want for the job cost effectively.
2. If the job performance will not be affected by physique of the employee or gender differences either physical or psychological, then another reason would be a social reason. The fact is, males are expected by society to be the breadwinners of the family. Between a husband and wife, the job would be given to the husband while the wife is made the homemaker, and traditionally it has been thought that this is the best arrangement. Though not necessarily true or false, the fact is that there is the pressure on the male to be the one with the higher pay, so for the sake of increasing the number of happy marriages and family units, males should be given higher pay. This will aid in getting more couples together, for those who are not yet open to the idea of the husband earning less than the wife, increasing the options for a male to choose a lifepartner and therefore increasing the numbers of long and happy marriages, vital for increasing birth rate and growing family units in society.
Also, in general, males are expected to bear most of the expenses incurred in dating a female, so giving males higher pay seems logical.
I do agree that women should be given equal pay based on merit and not gender though.

Yes men and women should get equal pay.
Legally in the UK men and women are entitled to equal pay for work of equal value.
Pay is not just about wages and salaries but also bonuses, overtime, sick pay, holiday pay etc.
In terms of other people's comments about women not being able to do certain job as well as men, that it a vast generalisation (there will always be exceptions) and of course people should always employ the best person for the job regardless of sex, race, disability, religion, sexual orientation & now age. (this is also the law).
To quote the Equal Opportunties Commission (EOC) website:
"You have a right not to be paid less than other work colleagues because of your sex, where the work is different but is of equal value in terms of the demands of the job.
'Demands' mean the skills, knowledge, mental and physical effort and responsibilities, which the job requires."
Some of the most shocking evidence of pay differencials is among granduates.
Again according to the EOC: The annual salary of male graduates aged 20-24 is 15% higher than the annual salary of female graduates in the same age group. This gap gets wider among older age groups. The gap exisits even when women and men have studied the same subject, achieved the same class of degree, work in the same occupations or the same industries.
I would suggest looking up the equal opportunties website.

If they are doing the same job for the same amount of time, yes. I can't think of any reasons why they shouldn't. If you are trying to find out ideas why, maybe you could look at it from a reverse angle. From what I have heard Sweden is sort of reversed. The women there make more on an average then the men. So wy should men be paid less?

Depends on the job. I don't think female footballer should get the same as men. I don;'t think female builders should either. Men and women are different, physically. And men do have a better edge in the work place than women. If they're as good, they should get paid the same, and they do. Plenty of women in the City earning 7 figure salaries. But more men, because men are stronger, more competitive, usually more ambitious and driven.

This is actually my job at the moment, we're instigating equal pay for equal work scheme. Unfortunately there're aren't very many reasons against, and as always these don't apply to every situation.
- In physical work (e.g. moving, lifting) a female employee may work the same length of time but do less actual work as they can't lift / move as much at once.
- Females are more likely to be the care-giver for children and require time off to look after sick kids / go to school events.

This is such an over-hyped issue. Were women to stay in their jobs longer and not become mothers, than their pay would be equal. In almost every job out there, they are paid the same, it is only when averages are used that their pay drops, which takes into account total earnings, not paycheck earnings.
