heavy bag. sweat. focus. take the blood away from malfunct synapses in the mind and do something productive. Force your body out of depression and the endorphines released help will also bring the mind to follow...well to some extent at least.
Do not celebrate depression. Do not exagerate your whims to action. Find something. ANYTHING productive to do. NOT a bucket of icecream that will help you feel like more crap later for example.

either drink, do some excersise or pay for a movie ticket and stay in the theater all day long, this requires some internet research to find the movie watcing schedule usually it works to watch 3 or 4 with just a few minutes break in between each of them it is fun and it helps

When darkness comes, you know its time to switch on the light.
When darkness comes knocking on the doors of your heart embrace it, never turn it away, or it will pile up at your doorsteps and block your light from entering the world and your own future. That is why, what you do not embrace not only grows but engulfs your own light as well.
The purpose of darkness is to push us towards the light within, and when we do that the darkness disappears in an instant and only permanent darkness is the darkness of a heart filled with fear of the light, as light always comes first into our hearts and then into our life.
And before light can come in we must first flush out the darkness and fearing it is darkness as well. Darkness is what ultimately leads us to the light within; having experienced great darkness within one can handle any light, as it is the darkness that pushes us into the light.
Embrace the darkness and you have already stepped into the light. So whenever you spot some darkness within or around yourself always embrace it first, because what you embrace you heal with your own light. Never fight it, for what you fight not only stays on but grows as well as you are energizing it with your attention.
So the darkness to come in be it as pain or anger, ever identify with it, as it is not what you are, it was is passing through you, a storm, a feeling sometimes.
Let it pass serenely and with grace, don’t intellectualize or deny it either, just let it flow through and out of you and it will automatically dissipate, it only when you panic at the sight of it or simple plunge deep into its without your own lights on that you can get stuck in it, beware of that otherwise all darkness can be a friend as only a friend takes us to the light.
Plus don’t hold on to it, though make sure you learn all that the pain came into your life to teach you, sometimes we need pain to move us out of our self imposed day dreaming or push us into action or reaction.
Sometimes only when we are faced with our darkness do we ever switch on our inner light. So lightness can be said the grace of darkness, or something that just preludes one another.
In times of darkness, be calm and pray, may the night pass over smoothly and may the day break faster on to you.

How do you change any emotionally debilitating thought? Focus on something else!
Focus on the beauty in the world. Contemplate what is beautiful, and how beauty relates to our existence.
That cured my melancholy :D

I try to find out why I am so empty inside instead of taking drugs, looking for the right person, taking antidepressants... I reach out to others and forget about my own problems.

May be go for a long walk or write poems or go on a shopping spree..Shopping like mad really helps to alleviate the pain..
