No. The film, like the films Psycho, Deranged and The Silence of the Lambs, was loosely inspired by Ed Gein. Gein did wear human skin, but he acted alone and did not use a chainsaw. Although the film's opening would have one believe that the events are factual, it is merely a scare tactic, called the false document technique, to frighten the audience.
Director Tobe Hooper claims to have got the idea for the film while standing in the hardware section of a crowded store. While thinking of a way to get out through the crowd, he spotted the chainsaws.

From what I hear it is from way back in 1974.I think that most of the events happened.You should really try to find the first Texas Chainsaw Masacre.I think that if there were real families of the victims out there they would be angry.The movies are good and scary but the way the say watch how gruesome the next one will be.It's kinda messed up if there were really people murdered by the crazy family.I think that it happened in 1969.

yes as far as i know it happened back in the 70's before i was ever born.... and i know for a fact that the exorcism of Emily rose was something that really happened i remember reading it in the paper when i was about 10 years old.....
