Hi

I had a sweep with my 2nd daughter at 10.30 in the morning and had her at 5:30 the following morning. However I was already starting to have contractions so I'm pretty sure it would have happened anyway.

The reason I chose to have the sweep was because I was induced with my first baby and the birth was painful and I was in hospital for a long time. With the 2nd natural birth I only had a small amount of gas and air and was home the same day.

I would advise you try it anyway. Anything is better than being induced. A lot of the other things are just old wives tales, I know for sure that curry and pineapple don't work and neither does driving over bumpy roads.
My first baby was 21 days late and even the gel didn't work (so that means sex wouldn't have worked either as the chemical in semen that helps is much more concentrated in the gel).

I would advise some nice long walks and just stay relaxed and calm. Feel positive about the birth and look forward to it. And most of all don't feel pressured into being induced.

Also the evening primrose oil is supposed to help with the birth as it makes you more stretchy so you are less likely to have an episiotomy (not sure how true this is). Is doesn't help the baby come quicker though.

Hope this helps....Michelle

I had it done twice. The first time increased my tightenings and the secondf one was a few days later and I had my daughter that night. About half an hour after the second sweep I was having strong contractions and I gave birth 10 hours later. Give it a try. If it does not work at least you gave it a go.
I heard tht drinking half a cup of caster oil with orange juice will induce. Tastes crappy and you will go the loo a lot (No2)(bit runny too) but worked for my husbands three cousins!!

Do not waste your time with old wifes tales, mother natures only chemical known to help change hormonal reactions in women is a mans sperm, so make love regularly if you are comfortable with that. This has been know to trigger labour.

Your baby will come when she or he is ready, just get lots of gentle exercise and rest and eat healthily and be patient.

Good Luck

I know when I was pregnant and reached my due date, my husband and I took a long truck ride...bumpy!! But only a little, and drove around where we would still be close to the hospital, then after that, I went to walmart and just walked, for almost two hours, I had never had any labor symptoms, but my son was born happy and healthy less than 12 hours later!!

It didn't work for me i'm afraid and i had it done twice!!! Baby will come when he/she is ready. Best thing you can do is go for a long walk, up and down hills (don't go alone!!!). Exercise seems to bring on labour for some people! Also, semen is meant to work like the gel they use to bring on labour - have sex soon after you have your sweep!!!

I don't think ANYONE can tell you what is going to happen tomorrow. If your "sweep" is a procedure to induce labour, then there is a good chance it will work because techniques to induce labour are quite good these days.

If it doesn't work perhaps you might need to be scheduled for a caesarian section.
