Osteo Arthiritus in my knees along with other problems in the same area, about a month before I went on sick leave our house went up for sale, and sold and because it is only a weeny house we couldn't store the boxes that we packed, so I asked my Regional Manager (of the company that I work for) if I could store the boxes in the massive warehouse of the store of which I am Manager of, as the upstairs warehouse doesn't get used, He asked how long it would be up there for and I replied hopefully only until the end of August, now, in this time, last week the Regional Manager emailed my store telling my Assistant Manager to phone and inform me that them boxes had to be removed asap!, I know that the time predicted was longer than original stated, but I am on sick leave, how was I suppose to remove the boxes at a snap of a finger!! I had to get my wife and her mum (who was still recovering from an op herself) to collect the boxes, Inconciderate and unfair I thought, what are your thoughts?

Inconsiderate and unfair...but then who said that life was fair

Could be he was laying trap to see if you went and collected the boxes yourself, thereby implying that you were fit for work. Crafty people these regional managers.

Hope you all get better very soon.

To be honest I have to agree with your regional managers desicion. The place of work isn;t a storing facility for your personal belongings, your quite lucky that the area manager has allowed you to store your possesions there in the first place, theres not many bosses like that, Plus the company isn't insured to have your belongings there, it only takes a box to fall on a staff members toe or a fire to start an guess what you have a court case on your hands. Dont take it as an offence because your off sick, the regional manager could have told you to your face and things could have been worse you could have got disapplined over it.

You seem to have forgotton he did you a favour in the first place and you dont sound very grateful.

You changed the rules of the arrangement by leaving them there longer than you origionally asked.

If you had been communicating all the way along and asked to leave them longer then it wouldnt have come as a surpirse if they couldnt stay but it sounds like you just left them.

Sorry to hear about your medical condition but it doesnt stop you taking responsibility for your word ( ie only need help until end of August)

It's not especially nice but I'm afraid that your company is well within it's rights to do that; your posessions are taking up space which they could be using to make profits from, and your things were there for more than a month longer that you said they'd be. Also bear in mind that they are paying you at the moment for doing nothing for them as you are unwell.I'd advise you to try and keep your personal life and professional life separate; not doing so almost always ends with complications.

I had the same situation with one of my employees who had a motorcycle accident, the fire inspectors came in and told me I had to relocated things because I had too much, I ended up renting a storage shed and moving his things on a weekend day. I appreciate my employees and if more people thought more of theirs this world would be a better place, those people kind of dumped on you, first of all they should have called you themselves and second if the warehouse is not being used it should not have been a problem. Sorry the world is full of schmucks!!!

If they gave you plenty of notice then that's fair enough! There must be a reason why they want you to remove the boxes. Maybe they're going to start using upstairs.

How can you managed to get them in there in the first place? If you got them in quickly (as I imagine you did) then you can get them out again. I think that if you ae poorly and are off work then you should be doing nothing that ill cause you to lenghthen your time off. I thimk if you are that poorly then hire a removal firm and get them to do the shifting, otherwise get back to work

He's let you have an extra month - that's not bad.
Why not rent storage and get a removals firm to transport the boxes for you?
How else are you going to manage it?

Yeah, when you're off sick companies don't care how they treat you. I know a guy who got sacked whilst on sick leave - surely that's not legal!!

I agree, not fair! It's not like the space was needed for something else, right?
