What you're looking at (44100Hz vs 22000Hz) are two separate but related things.

44100Hz is CD's *sampling rate*. 22000Hz is the highest *frequency* you can hear on an iPod.

For a format such as CD or MP3 to sound proper, the "sampling rate" must be at least double the highest "frequency" recorded.

So CD, being 44100Hz, theoretically can hold sounds as high as 22050Hz.

Anyway, don't worry about the "20Hz to 22000Hz" thing. That's just a general thing that companies write when they don't actually want to give a detailed report of the audio characteristics of their product — 20Hz-20000Hz is the average range of human hearing.
