Alcohol dependence is likely if the patient gives 2 or more positive answers. This is called CAGE Questionnaire. It has more than 90% of sensitivity. You will get addicted to alcohol if you have a genetic predisposition to it.

Depends on the time span and on what you call an alcoholic.
French don't consider 1/2 bottle of wine a day alcoholism even if taken each day/ 365 days a year/ whole life.
If your behavior does not change (your relatives and friends do not complain) and you do not have a dependency (you can either drink or not), then don't worry.

Perhaps not a full-blown alcoholic, but I'd certainly say you were a problem drinker. If you feel you can't function without this level of drink, you could have the beginnings of an addiction and you should get help from AA or your GP.

It doesn't necessarily make you an alcoholic. You are one only if you feel you can't exist without alcohol, try and go on for a few days without drinking and if you can do it with ease then you'll know that you are OK. If not seek help.

I took this test on the web: http://www.aa-uk.org.uk/publications/areyou.htm
And I said Yes to about 5. Apparently that would make me an alcoholic. But I'm not.
See how you do.
Incase you were wondering I answered yes to: 3, 10, 16, 17 & 19.

Alcoholism takes many forms. You're undoubtedly a heavy drinker - you might want to try and cut down a bit - but the question you need to ask is, 'can I live without my drink?'
Try going sober for a month. You'll soon know.

Best way to truly know is to not drink for two days - if you can't you are dependent on alcohol. Alcoholism is a form of addiction (definition of addiction: person unable to stop).
If you manage the two days then you need to reduce your habit (definition of habit: established way of behaving) to prevent it from getting worse. If for no other reason your kidneys and liver will thank you.
Take care. :)

If you feel that you cant do without it or you are 'using' it to either help you sleep, calm you down, cheer you up then yes, you probably have a drink problem. Try to stay off it for a few days and see how you feel. If you feel bad or cant do without it, then you should make an appointment to see your doctor and they will be able to offer you further help.
