12 brothers, princes, who are turned into geese. In order to turn back into men, their sister, Elise, must make them special shirts out of nettle in a certain length of time. She climbs a hill to collect the nettle to knit and finishes all 12 except for the sleeve of one. That brother always has a wing instead of an arm.

I remember a fairy tale by the Brother's Grimm, entitled 'The Six Swans' - which tells the tale you mention. It involves only six brothers.
But a tale of 12 brothers ? Never came across that one.

Not sure about 12 geese but there is a stroy by the Grimm Brothers about 6 brothers who were turned into swans and their sister sewed shirts for them but one did not have a sleeve therefore the youngest brother was left with a wing.

If you want the title it's 'The Twelve Wild Geese'. The author I found is Matt Faulkner.
