I had a vesctomy 5 weeks ago. After a day my right testicle was the size of a small melon. Phoned hospital..they said see GP. GP said come back after weekend. It got worse. After weekend another GP said it was haematoma, although I was screaming at him that I was sure it was epididmitus which I had had before. Went to hospital 6 hours later after numerous blood tests, ultrasound (ouch!) and being prodded by vitually every other nurse and doc in the place...guess what? I had epididmitus!
Said to doc that I dont suppose this happens often? He said "Well you are the 4th this week!
Still on anti biotics..still swollen. still very painful. No chance of sex for weeks. Doc says I may be in pain for months or even years!
Do I sound bitter? You bet I do!
So if you are considering it....think very carefully and then decide against

I really feel for you, but this isn't common after vasectomy, there are always risks with any procedure and these should have been explained to you before you had the op. The percentage of complications after vasectomy are in fact very low.
If you are still not happy then give Marie Stopes a call, they have a dedicated vasectomy department and are always more than happy to do whatever they can to help in these situations.
Maybe it would be helpful to see one of their specialists (or at least talk to them), you may find they are more experienced in these matters than the doctor to whom you have spoken.

Most people choose vasectomy over female sterilisation because the female operation is highly invasive surgery and entails a stay in hospital, whereas the male op is over within about ten minutes and in most cases you are ok to resume normal activity soon after, I really hope that you are better very soon.
