Correct me if I'm wrong abut this, but if the Yanks win the World Series this year, will Johnny Damon be the first baseball player since Babe Ruth to win a Wrold Series with both the Red Sox and the Yankees?

Calm down people! I'm not saying Damon has the same abilities as Ruth, more like they'll both have that in common. I'm a Red Sox fan, btw.

I believe you are right...hmm...but I do not see the Yanks winning the WS, they will get past the Tigers but b/c they have a great star studded veteran offense going against an overachieving young inexperienced pitching staff. If they meet up with the A's (or Twins) they will have a rough go b/c of their lack of pitching and the A's (Twins) experience on the mound (especially A's). Pitching wins WS championships, great pitching beats a great offense in series that matter. The Yanks do not have pitching. You can win 97 games w/o pitching in the reg. season, the game isnt the same in the postseason and you have to have a great staff to win it all. Name the last WS winners who havent had a solid staff? Mussina and Johnson are wore down (espec. Johnson) and the only real starter is Wang and he is new on the scene. The rest of their pitching is VERY suspect.
Actually, I know its right since the Red Sox won it for the first time since 1918 (I believe) in 2004...but Mike Myers (RP) was on the 2004 Red Sox roster and he is now on the Yankees too...so Damon and Myers would be the first since Ruth to win it all with both the Yanks/Red Sox (if it were to happen).

The biggest similarity between Ruth and Damon...
Is the fact that the Red Sox won't win a championship for 80+ years after allowing Damon to go.

If you go to:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/multifranchise.cgi?level=franch&t1=BOS&t2=NYY&t3=&t4=&submit=Find+Players
This will give you a list of every player who played with both the Red Sox and the Yankees:
Ramiro Mendoza pitched for the Yankees in the 90s, and was on the Yanks when they won all four of their World Series between 1996 and 2000. He actually pitched in the 98 and 99 Series for the Yanks.
He pitched for the Red Sox in 2004, and pitched in two games in the ALCS against the Yankees...but he did not pitch in the World Series in 2004.
Reviewing that list, he looks like the only player to be on a Championship team with both the Red Sox and the Yankees since Babe Ruth did it.

I like Johnny Damon a lot, but the Babe would never get a shave and hair cut for George Steinbrener.

Yes, he will be like Ruth in that sense...but that is about it. Damon is not 1/2 the player Ruth was.
But in the sense you bring up, yes, Damon would be the 1st since Ruth.

What!!!! who cares. Your getting alittle too high about the yankees. They have no pitching..You cant win the World Series without pitching..Until there bullpen wakes up...Johnny damon will only have one championship...relax

If is a big word here, but if they win, then yes, that would be the case. I hope Roger Clemens becomes the second next year.

The only way Damon will be like 'the Babe' is when when he dies.....then they will both be dead.....thats alike as they will ever be.

In that respect, yes, he'd be like the Babe. However, in every other, he doesn't come close.

You don't win 97 games with no pitching.
