Knowledge is the accumulation of facts, information, experiences, percepstions etc. or seemingly facts that one stores or can store in one's brain. It could be facts or information that has been accumulated over centruries or could be as recent as a new invention or discovery just made. Knowlege is stored in brain with the priorities (to access it), relevance, importance to oneself, one's special interests, proximity to other knowledge etc.
Nature of knowlege is of growing type.
It is simply an accumulation and organization of facts, experiences, perceptions etc. in your brain (or that can be stored in your brain).
It can be taught.
Wright brothers of U.S.A. are credited with the invention of a flying machine (aircraft). Now if a stuent of Aeronautics wants to learn the basic principles of a flying machine or an aeroplane then he does not have to reinvent the wheel. He can learn how and why an aricraft flies. This is because this knowlege has been created and accumulated by the Knowledge resources or knowledge bases in the world and is made available to the student.
Without which each one will invent the wheel again.
Like everyone will try to figure out how a thing flies.
And to find out the same thing that Wright brothers found out decades ago it will take a very long time. So teaching and learning knowledge reduces the time to know the knowledge considerably. And one can make better progress in life due to teaching and learning of the knowledge.
A student can create knowledge. Like Research students at Universities create knowledge. Scientists create inventions and get them patented. Albert Einstein discovered Theroy of Relativity and the principle of Photo Electric effect.
Wright brothers invented a flying machine.
The reason why you could ask this question on Yahoo!Answers and why I could reply to it is because you and I are taught to read and write English. I don't know about you but I have learnt English from my teacher / at school.
So that is the role of a teacher to school and to the students.
Teacher has say 50 students.
He or she teaches all of them at the same time.
Good teachers do not discriminate among students.
A few students grasp the teachings fast and in a better way.
Some students are slow and do not grasp everything.
But the teacher can't be blamed if not all 50 students in the class get an A grade.
That is the nature of the knowledge.
What is the real wisdom ?
That is beyond the scope of the present question.
It has totally different set of answers. But I will save my answers to that for the time being.

To put it simply, Knowledge is recognition. When you recognize something, you have knowledge. The more we recognize, the more knowledge we have. If you recognize much in the world, it's a sign you've acquired much knowledge. I could talk about this for hours, but I’d like to get onto a more personally interesting topic of discussion that I wish to convey, which may also give you more insight into what knowledge is.
What is the role of the teacher in the process of acquiring knowledge? Simple, it’s helping the students make as many associations as possible. Math = the calculation of quantity. Math is required to build civilizations, roads, cities, blocks, everything. Math can be used for everything that has a quantity. Thoughts have a quantity; everything in the universe has a quantity. Math is one tool to take those quantities and change them to your liking. Math is fcuking cool! It can help you plan and create a majestic, awe inspiring city.
These subtle yet important associations are critical for students' basic foundational mathematic knowledge, yet most teachers, from their ignorance, do not teach a student how to create these important associations. They should be continually hammering in this foundational knowledge. If foundational knowledge is ignored, kid’s education will be retarded, and teachers and parents may consider the child stupid. It is the teachers that are stupid. Ok this is a very personal topic for me as you can tell, for I have many indignant feelings towards the education system, but they are not to blame. Everyone acts in the best possible way they know how. But I digress.
Apply this simple formula to any other subject, and you’ll understand the role of a teacher for that particular subject. English should be recognizing grammar, words, and how words are associated. I studied grammar for 6 months before taking an English course. Regardless of what my teacher is teaching, I’m getting straight A’s from effective grammar; and in class, he discourages the students’ motivation by saying things like, “well lets not talk about grammar too much” or “there won’t be too much grammar on the mid term”. The school system is complete bullshit.
There is more to the education than solely helping a young one create associations. Motivation is another important part of education, yet from my perspective, the school system isn’t even focusing their efforts on this important stage of learning.
If you feel the same way, and your interesting in changing the system, i'd like to talk about starting a new way of education. E-mail me at dj_spin37@hotmail.com. Don't try to change the system; start your own system, and if it's good the people will follow.
Feel free to dump fliers or vocalize this message in your school, creating havoc and disorder until the teachers and the education system get a fcuking clue. Infact, after writing this, i'm inspired to dump mass fliers across my university Campus. :D

knowledge means to know. It is stored in the brain not in the mind. I don't think it can be thought or be created, but it can be acquired
the role of the school is to guide their students of what proper knowledge should be acquired on an appropriate manner.
Knowledge is what is known. Like the related concepts truth, belief and wisdom. There is no single definition of knowledge on which scholars agree, but rather numerous theories and continued debate about the nature of knowledge.
Knowledge acquisition involves complex cognitive processes as perception, learning, communication, association and reasoning. The term knowledge is also used to mean the confident understanding of a subject, potentially with the ability to use it for a specific purpose. (wikipedia)

Knowledge is noting but exprience, when we have more experience in a subject we master in it. Our exprience is taught as lesson to others. which might help other to sail smoothly. If you are good teacher and if have ablity to communicate your exprience in right way you student can be taught
Example : Making a cup of coffee is also a knowledge

knowledge is either from book smarts or from experience. I'll take experience anytime.... but one doesn't NEED experience to be wise if they're aware of what's going on around them to others.

What do you mean saying "knowledge can be created"? It contradicts with your questions, because knowledge can be created through school. Can it be created by itself? Please clarify....
