One difference is that the house is a building, whether or not it has residents. The word, "home", implies there are people living in the building. "Home" is used by real estate people probably because it is assumed that since a house will be used as a home it makes practical and business sense to refer to property as a "home".

A house doesn't always have to be a home. A home isn't always a house.

A "house" is a shelter to live in. A "home" has "heart" from families with unforgetable memories. Things like remembering when your Mom made those delicous home-made pies in "her kitchen". Remember your favorite hiding place when you got in trouble and didn't want to be found because you knew you'd get a good spanking, or even worse. Or, what about the warmth you felt in your home on a cold winter's day, after you've just come in from the cold and there's some yummy hot chocolate with marshmallows waiting for you. "Home" is full of spirit and love. That's something that once you've lived in it, no one can ever take away those special moments that will forever stay in your heart.

A house is always a house or structure. A home is where someone resides. A home can be a house or even a cardboard box, but it is always home while someone is in it. A house can be a home or just a house sitting there waiting to earn some realtor a large commision for trying to make it a home.

A House is not necessary a Home. You live in a House - four walls and a roof, furnishings to complete the living in. It lacks warmth and love, something that when you have them inside, it is a Home. ;-)
