Your significant other WILL not get poked EVERY TIME. Now (TMI) I have sex with my fiancee on a daily basis and have been on the iud 3 yrs that equals to 1095 encounters and he has been poked 1x! the reason why he did get poked is that I have a low cervix so my strings are lower than on an average person! Plus you can tuck the strings around your uterus before sex and he wont even feel it!!!

IT IS NOT WORSE THAN LABOR!!!! Its mild cramping and you can take ibuprofen to minimize the cramps.

The only downfall it has is:

Spotting and irregular period for the 1st yr and your period usually lessens alot or it disappears completely!

Change in vaginal PH nothing an occasional douche dosent help

It has the same pregnancy rate as surgery.
YOU MAY become infertile but its a .08% I personally didnt get it until I ws ok with the fact that I might be that.08% I have 1 boy and 1 girl I cant complain. About 10% of women expell the IUD. Due to the Dr. not inserting it properly (they go thru training for this tho), Women having not had children previous to the IUD. or their bodies just rejecting it completly.

Its recomended women have atleast 1 child bc

1. the uterus of a woman who has had a child previously is slightly larger than one who hasnt and it lowers the chances of the IUD expelling

2. you may become infertile even tho its a very low chance but it is there.

IUD's donot cause infections but make them harder to treat so it is recomended that a woman have only 1 sexual partner.

It's rediculous how someone can be a nurse and have all the wrong info!(1st poster)

On the good side : you will not have the effects of hormones on the whole of your body. It can be put in and left for up to 5 years without having to remember to take it daily. If you get the newer IUDs (eg Mirena) with progesterone in them they will lessen your periods and often stop them all together while they are in place.
On the bad side - the older type of IUD with no hormones(progesterone) in them increase your menstrual bleeding. All IUDs increase your risk of infections such as PID and endometritis (this is because the cervical mucus normally forms a plug across the cervix which helps prevent infection traveling up from the vagina into the uterus and the fallopian tubes). A severe infection can cause scaring and fertility problems. IUDs also have a relatively high incidence of ectopic or tubal pregnancy as the IUD does not prevent pregnancy outside the uterus. I hope this gives you some things to think about and helps in your decision.

IUD's are bad news. First of all, I don't understand why any of us would think that anything that is allowed to stay in our bodies for any length of time is any good. IUD's have been known to cause sterility. During intercourse the tip of it stabs the man's penis and it is very uncomfortable. Let's face it, with things going on like that, you won't need to use birth control.

I have the Mirena love it. It didn't hurt at all when I had it placed. My periods are very light now. My husband can not feel the strings when we make love. Any other questions feel free to email me.

i heard it was far more painful to insert it,worse then having a baby........and i reckon anything in your body that has been there for a long period of time would cause infection.......I would recommend condoms or contraceptive pills
