This question just BEGS for the best answer every given. Courtesy of Mr. Francis Church:
"Dear Virginia:
" Your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age.
"They do not believe except what they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little.
"In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of gasping the whole of truth and knowledge.
"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus.
There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.
Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus.
"The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in this world.
"You tear apart the baby's rattle to see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart.
"Only faith, poetry, love, romance can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.
"No Santa Claus? Thank God he lives, and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood."

Santa Claus is real, he just isn't a person that you can see or touch. Santa Claus is the spirit of giving. It doesn't matter where the gifts come from. What matters is that there was enough love there for the gifts to come. I am 31yrs old and I still believe in Santa Claus. He is just as much a part of the Christmas season as Christ is. It's not so much the gifts that he gives but the love that he represents. Not believing in Santa only kills the Christmas Spirit.

She is likely lying, sorry to say. But Santa Claus was a big deal in my childhood only to find out (around when I was about 13 or 14), that my parents have been setting the whole "presents showing up unexpectedly" all along, with the different wrapper, handwriting, everything! I got over it pretty much but looking back on it, it was fun during the years when you actually believed it.

You will probably be glad to hear that the only true answer to this question is...yes, absolutely.
The name "Santa Claus" came from the Dutch "Sinter Klass" pronunciation of St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas was a Christian priest, who later became a bishop. He was a wealthy person, and traveled the country helping others, giving gifts of money and other presents. St. Nicholas chose to remain hidden while giving these gifts, so the children were told to go to sleep quickly or he would not come!
One famous story is about a poor man who had no money to give to his three daughters on their wedding day. St. Nicholas dropped bags of gold into the stockings which the girls had left to dry by the fire. Ever since, children have hung up stockings on Christmas Eve hoping that they will be filled with gifts by Christmas morning.
According to the Catholics, a saint is one who lived such a holy life that, after dying and going to heaven, is still able to help people on earth.
In the 1500's people in England stopped worshipping St. Nicholas and favored another gift giving figure Father Christmas.
Now, no matter what your religious preference is or if you even believe in Saints, doesn't change that St. Nicholas represents a selfless act of giving. Rather it be material gifts, money where needed or the often most valuable gift of a little of your time, it's about the act of helping someone else for no other reason then just because they need it.
As St. Nicholas had figured out as a young man, we truly, as adults, begin to understand Santa Claus when we realize that the best gift of all is not on the receiving end, but being the one giving. And being rich doesn't always mean having a lot of money. Often, especially these days, taking the time
to spend with someone, inviting them over for dinner or even putting food on their table, can make all the difference.

SANTA CLAUS IS REAL!
for those low life creeps up there that say other wise Trying to get something of value out of your answers is like trying to squeeze orange juice out of an apple. You wouldn't know a clue if it walked up to you, bit you on the a s s, and announced 'I AM A CLUE'. If you knew what you were talking about, you'd be dangerous. I'm busy trying to imagine you with personalities. Maybe you'd be less boring once I got to know you, but I don't want to take that chance. If you called the Suicide Hotline, they'd say: "Go ahead. Do it!" Maybe you wouldn't come across as such jellyfish-sucking mental midgets if you weren't living proof that stupid people should not breed. Just when I think, "Surely these people have reached and encapsulate the limits of Internet tedium" you go and push the boundary even further. Try learning elementary grammar before attempting to inflict your next literary abomination on this forum. Calling you dull is a gross underestimation of just how tedious you are. You each have the personality of a damp sponge and the appeal of moldy sweat socks. Is there anything I need to know about you other than you're grungy social outcasts? Maybe you wouldn't be such Jerks-In-The-Box if you didn't eat all those paint chips and lead pencils when you were kids. It seems your fingers not only did your typing, but did your thinking too. Have you considered suing your brain for non-support? Wouldn't clues have more room to fit in your heads if you got rid of some of the gobbledygook in there? Have you ever noticed that whenever you sit behind a keyboard, some idiot starts typing?
Anyway, I'm not really good with fools, but a friend who is good with fools wrote something down for me. Oh, yeah, "Shut your cake-hole, stupid!"
Santa Claus is real and right about now he's really pissed, and he's coming back. You won't like Santa when he's angry.

Actually, weather it is Santa claus, the easter bunny, or
the love and harmony that valentines day brings to the heart, you and anyone else who "chooses" to believe, can and should, if it makes "you" feel good! How about that? The feeling is in the heart of the "believer." No disrespect towards your friend, but perhaps your friends feelings have been stepped on a bit at one time or another. I am 49 years old, and I believe in all of it, because "all" of it still makes my heart happy!

I think all of you are really mean, I don't care if you're 2, 17, 45 or 70, Santa Claus is someone who lives in our hearts. He's as real to me now as he was when I was that little girl who couldn't get to sleep on Christmas Eve. Shame on all of you, you're all grown up now and have no time for such childlessness? Your momma would not be proud of you, that is a given.

Your friend isn't lying. Truthfully, Santa Clause isn't "real" but on Christmas, you should always believe in the spirit of Santa Clause. That's REALLY what matters. Email me at cookiemonster51704@yahoo.com
