No. We are called African Americans because of our descendants not just where we are from originally.

The term African-American refers to Americans who are descendants of Africans and is most commonly used for those whose ancestors were forced into slavery and brought to America. Your "white people" are descendants of Europeans, no matter where they lived previously. They would be considered European-Americans. Although, anyone can call themselves whatever they please and ask others to respectfully do the same.

People with African heritage are either Arab, or Black. No caucasians.
The white people in Africa are merely settlers and are not truly african.

no as a nigerian i am refered to by my nationality and african american are label african american becasue their ancestors are from africa their dna is mixed with 50% white and 50% black

they should be though, you are quite right, also those from Egypt and Morocco or any of those places along the north coast of the continent. By the same token everybody from Europe should be called EuroAmericans just as AfroAmericans are called.
