Britain appears to becoming the world centre for thinking up ideas by government and local councils and then taxing a public that can do little more than pay up. Today we face cost for parking outside our own homes to parking anywhere the can stick a yellow line to over inflated council tax ...and the latest a series of rubbish charges from microchipping you bin to see how much you put in it. The idea of charging on top of council tax for rubbish removal already being spoken about. Every thing is important but lets get it into proportion what are your views?

I wouldn't mind if the money they get would stay in local council offices, but it doesn't. This Labour government has done nothing but tax tax tax our asses for the years it has been in power.

If they really gave a toss about recycling and "The Green Issues" they would do something but they do nothing. All they see is another way of getting you to pay more tax to get them out of the financial crap they are in.

Lets face it how hard would it be to pass laws and tell supermarket chains to use less packaging. If they wanted to they could, but they are so scared of these large company's as they employ so many people. Oh yeah plus they give loans to political party's.

We will pay the tax on rubish ..... we will pay tax on tax if they made us, and the reason why is we a scared shitless in this country to stand up and tell them to sod off.

Wow, Britain really is the world's most tax-happy place. Nickle and dime you to death they do.

I guess they think people notice it less when its small tax here, small tax there rather than just raising the main tax. Why don't these governments get a clue? By the time they figure out the costs of the bureaucracy and implementation (like placing microchips in the bins) they will reclaim more of their taxes just increasing the ones they already have. I suppose they want you to recycle and they use the taxes to control behavior. If that's the case here I think a little support or encouragement (like money to turn in your recyclable rubbish) would do more than a minor punishment.

Urghhh don't even get me started on the rubbish debate.

We moved from the normal rubbish bins a couple of years ago, to having the black wheelie bin for normal household rubbish, and the green wheelie bin for the recycled rubbish ... and while in theory it was a good idea, in practice it just doesn't work.

The bins are emptied on alternate weeks, which means especially for the normal household waste (black bin) it gets emptied once a fortnight, now for someone with quite a large family it's rediculous, there is too much rubbish for it only to be collected once a fortnight, and then if you don't but the wheelie bin in the right place ( smack in the middle of the pavement ) they won't empty it, and they also won't let you put any of your left over bags which won't fit into the wheelie bin into the back of the bin wagon ... I seriously don't know what I am paying council tax for at the moment, I spend more time running back and forth to the tip myself.

I heard yesterday that todays council tax is DOUBLE what the poll tax was 11 years ago. I have to pay nearly £120 per month to the council which I think is outrageous - especially when they don't do anything about the people who park in the "residents parking spaces" in the street I live in, WITHOUT permits!!!

We have JUST changed over to fortnightly bin collections and fortnightly recycling collections (alternate of course) and whilst I agree that we must recycle more, the council seem to have gone ahead with NO regard for what the council tax payers have to say. They made their decision and went ahead with it. There are only two of us in my household and so our rubbish is not as much as bigger families - but already our bin is filled to overflowing and we have to wait another week for it to be emptied - surely, ultimately, this will cause rubbish to be strewen all over the place, people will use street rubbish bins and dump stuff on the roads - and cause even more problems with rubbish and health issues.

Same as they are going to do to the Inner Distribution Road in Reading - they are going to apparently make it ONE WAY but this is going to take FOUR years!!!!

IF they started to work sensibly on the smaller issues and made things more efficient and cost effective, maybe we would start believing in them a little more. Instead of which, they seem to want to make their mark with a BIG statement and no regard for the chaos they are going to cause.

This is the result of the current mental sickness sweeping through Government and Local Councils , "Tax Tax Tax" , "Grab Grab Grab"Punish Them" These useless Prats can,t do the jobs they are being paid for in an efficient manner and have become obsessed with "Confiscating" as much of the Taxpayers income as possible , whilst being paid astronomical salaries and pensions they are simply not worth ,these Bunglers , aided and abetted by the "Politically Correct" sicko,s the snide "Jobsworths" are turning Great Britain into a very nasty ,depressing place . run by Rabble who are convinced they are superior to the ordinary folk who after all pay their Bloody salaries . It is High Time for every citizen to stand up to this "Army of a useless shower of Bastards", and re establish common sense , fair play and respect for the citizens of this country - If this drift into Total Control by these "Enemies of the State" continues it will only get worse - with only ourselves to Blame ? ? Re the question of Microchipping perhaps this shower who are hidden behind "Closed Doors" Should have Microchip inserted in an appropriate place , so that we could all find out just what they "Get Up To" ???

I think Britain has a helluva burden of costs because of the enormous amount of people (compared to the size of the country) who live there, and the incredible number of people on welfare, so it's not surprising that the government is desperately trying to scratch up yet more money by new taxes. Remember learning that some old king decided to impose a daylight tax many years ago. That's why you see old buildings with bricked-up windows. So long as they can do it without being stopped, they will. Hard luck. (I still wish I lived there, and not in Australia, despite your difficulties!!)

I'll be doing some fly tipping if i start getting charged extra for rubbish removal. We should be seeing a reduction in council tax especially if they want us to recycle more, we're doing all the hard work so they don't have to. The sooner i can go live abroad the better. This place stinks!!!

If you know your bin has been chipped. Get a screwdriver underneath to remove it.
Stick in the microwave for 30 seconds and then re-glue to the bin. Everybody should do this to show their disgust with the Government and Councils.

The only thing this will ensure is fly tipping.

I already put stuff in other bins and skips whilst on the way to work. It means I don't have to put my bin out for emptying!

There are lots of people who don't bother taking their bin off the street after its been emptied.

I have no doubt whoever thought up this scheme is on a fat salary and full of their own self importance, and answerable to nobody!

not in britain but ask yourself, what is the government doing with this additional tax revenue? Have they created new entitlements or pumped the extra money into your economy? Balanced budgets? Surpluses? Trimming national debt? Lower unemployment rate? Poverty Rate decreasing? Real median income increasing? Inflation low? How's the London Exchange doing? I'm sure Britain's economy is growing unlike our tax-cutting america where we witness a stablize one. At least Britain fights global warming and is more envirnomentally friendly.

I entirely agree with you and as I work for a local council, I cannot even begin to tell you what waste and skiving goes on. I remember Local Gov. Re-organisation in 1975 led to a massive increase in management, but its nothing to compared to now. I actually worked in a hospital which had a bigger admin dept. than hospital. Now, in a very small library, I have three managers, before their managers and so on up the ladder where the person at the top only got promoted to get her out of the way until she retires and so on and so on
