yes. redirect your energies on someone who will appreciate your efforts. why not yourself? do something special for yourself, you're worth it. you can continue to give to someone, but do it out of love, not to get something out of it. that way, you won't be disappointed.

It is better to give than to receive.

Don't require the same back as you give. You are not them and they are not you.

Talk it out with the other and find a middle point for you both.

this depends on how long you have been in this relationship.
If it is one of long standing and you have voiced these needs before and the other person is not making an attempt to met your needs, then by all means stop, but if you have never let them know how you feel, you need to do so in a non threatening /accusing way.
