My family (mother, me and my daughter has this, plus I am a nurse) has had to suffer this illness and boy, do I ever know about this dreaded disease.

First of all I would advise you for your own confront to stop wearing tampons and use a pad. It sounds like you have developed a cyst on your right overy, thus causing you pain. You can have this checked out by your doctor to confirm this. Some cysts will go away and all will be well. Others will not and may need surgury if the pain persists. So do keep a eye on your pain level. And don't lift anything real heavy, this could cause the cyst more pain and discomfort.

What to do for now. No tampons/wear pads. If pain level is sharp, knife like pain; seek immediate ER care {indicates possible cysts rupture}, No heavy lifting, Take Ibuprofen 400 mg (which is 2 tablets, they are 200 mg each) every 4-6 hours as needed for pain, place a warm bottle/heat pad of some sort over your area of pain to help with the pain, rest, monitor the level of pain carefully and know the signs of possible ER care.

I hate you aren't feeling that well. My daughter and I neither one could use tampons either. I wish you well. Oh, caffine can make it worse beleive it or not; right now, since you are in pain, drink just water or juices or non-caffine drinks ok? I almost forgot that. Take care.

You really need to address this problem with your doctor. It could be pain from the ovaries, as the hormonal fluctuations do affect them, especially if you suffer from PCOS. Meantime, if the tampons cause pain, you really shouldn't use them. Switch to a pad, and make an appointment to see your doctor. And while you are there, you might ask the doctor to locate your ovaries so you know where they are. He/she will do this during a pelvic exam, and you will definitely know when they find them. Then you will have an answer when you are wondering if it is ovary you are feeling or something else.

See your gyn right away. She or he can help you better than we can. Your doctor is the expert, not the people here.

In the meantime, use pads until whatever is hurting your vagina is dealt with by the doctor - whether there's a cyst in there or some other ailment.

I have had PCOS for years (I'm 44) and I have never had what the questioner describes.

I had a cysts on my right ovary and was told that a strong birth control pill will help it not grow or help it shrink. The pain you are feeling on your right side, during that time of the month, is the cyst shrinking to release the blood it consumed and shrink down in size again. Ask your doctor about a strong birth control pill to help the cysts as my doctor told me about.

Stop using tampons for a start. I know, I know its inconvenient, but sometimes your body needs time off them. I get strange pains exactly as you describe, and when I went in for a pap smear I got it checked out but they couldnt see anything wrong, so I assume its just one of the joys of being a woman! Always I advise people if your scared, see a doctor. If its not that bad, wait it out. The human body has amazing healing capabilities, never forget that. 90% of things people go to the doctor for will go away by themselves, or can be treated by yourself.

Go and get an ultrasound done. Most ovarian cysts go away on their own, but talk to a doctor. If the tampons bother you don't use them for now.

i have had cysts on my ovaries for years now. when i went to the doctor to find out about the pain that is the diagnosis i recieved after an ultrasound. my doctor put me on a birth control pill with a low level of estrogen and it seems to help the pain alot. if i have missed my pills and am about to start my period the pain starts again. so go see your doctor asap only he or she can help you with the pain relief and getting help with the cysts.

u said the cysts are on your ovaries... tampons dont reach your ovaries.... they only go in the vagina... you have another problem... maybe your vagina is to dry or the tampon is to big. try some KY jelly on the tampon before inserting! remember your vagina goes towards the back, not straight up!

Switch to pads. The tampon could be aggravating the condition.
Could there be other factors?
Call your doctor in the morning and talk to the nurse. She should be able to give you some advice.

Get some rest and good luck.

My mom had this same problem....She kind of pushed it aside and when she finally went bck to the dr. to have an ultrasound her cysts had enlarged enough to make her uterus stretch to the size of a 5 months pregnant women's...She ended up needing a hysterectomy because of he damage to her uterus and the doctor said that it was preventable if she had come to him earlier...You should definately go see your OBGYN so that they can rule anything like this out. Its likely its just swelling and you should switch to pads, but you can never be too careful. Good Luck
