From what I've read the majority of the scientific community agrees that global warming is occuring and that there is some human influence. Can anyone give me some information about the opposite side of this argument, and what sicentists or scientific organizations disagree with the idea that global warming is occuring or that humans are contributing to it.

Unfortunately, the website that I read - www.envirotruth.org - is currently down for "editing and updating", but have a read when it comes back up.

I think it's fair to say that everyone agrees that global warming *is* happening, but that is not really something we should be worried about. The Earth's climate is *always* changing. We should be worried if it *wasn't* changing.

In the mid-'70s we were at the end of a 30 year downward temperature trend and people were scare mongering about another ice age being on the way.

For the past 30 years there has been an upward trend and now they're scare mongering about global warming.

As for whether or not mankind is causing it, well, I'm firmly on the fence. I have yet to see any conclusive proof that we are. Yes CO2 levels are rising, but that isn't necessarily affecting the climate. The scare mongerers tend to leave you with the impression that CO2 is the most significant greenhouse gas, when actually it isn't - far from it. 99% of all greenhouse gas is actually water vapour! So how significant do you think CO2 is?

The other big problem I have with the scare mongerers is why they feel the need to lie to me to try and get their point across. If what they are saying is true, why include "evidence" of global warming that is no such thing.

A couple of examples...

Have a look here at Greenpeace's website http://www.greenpeace.org/international/photosvideos/slideshows/the-global-retreat-of-glaciers?page=13 It shows a photo of a glacier in 1922. The next photo shows the same area in 2002. Shocking, huh? But I've read elsewhere that the guy who took the photo in 1922 took it *because* the glacier was already melting and he wanted to remember it. It was all gone by 1925! In the 1920's mankind's affects on the climate where negligible at worst - but that's not what Greenpeace is suggesting, is it?

Another example; Kilimanjaro is losing its snow-cap because of global warming! Shocking evidence of extreme climate change. Accept, of course, it's not. While rising temperatures may have had an affect, the main reason why Kilimanjaro is losing its snow-cap is down to deforestation of its foothills. These forests provide the moisture that wind then carries up to the top of the mountain to deposit as snow. With the forests disappearing, there is less snow falling, so the snow-cap is shrinking.

Now, I don't know about you, but whenever I find out that someone has had to lie (or at least be misleading) to me to try and get me to believe what they are saying, it makes me wonder why.

So, it's up to you. If you are happy to be lied to, then you go ahead and believe the scare mongeres. Personally, I'll wait for some *real* evidence before I commit myself either way.

The third answerer gets it all! Good job! I do have one thing to add. Yes, it's true that the earth's temp does cycle. But here's where most people get it wrong. What causes the change? Well, as was just pointed out, it's not CO2. (Even if it was CO2, we'd have to shut down volcanoes to make a difference.) It's not humans, so it's got to be something else, maybe something big. How 'bout that 800,000 mi wide, millions of degrees, burning ball of hydrogen and helium we call the sun. That has a far greater impact on global warming than anything else. Have you heard about the ice caps on Mars melting. It wasn't little green men causing global warming with CO2 emissions. It's the sun!

Your fart is the biggest threat to and one of the causes of global warming.
