You need a valid photo ID issued by a Federal, state, or local government authority. Do you have a passport or other photo ID?

That's the requirement, but I don't think they look at expiration dates that closely. If your picture is reasonably accurate, and the name and address matches any information in the airline's computer, you'll probably get by. But they can be very sticky. I was going to the Bahamas four years ago and didn't have a passport. I brought my birth certificate and the airline tried to deny me boarding because my birth certificate had my maiden name and that didn't match my driver's license.

Can you go to your local DMV office and renew your license or at least get an identification card from them before you fly? It will make things much easier.

No it won't. Federal regulations now require that all passengers over the age of 18 years old present valid current photo identification issued by a state or country.

No, you need a current, valid picture ID. If you cannot renew your driver's license, you can go to the DMV and get a non-driver ID.
