(1234)x = x^3+2x^2+3x+4 = 384
or x^3+2x^2+3x - 380= 0
x has to be integer as it is base
if has to be factor of 380.
x cannot be < 5
so x may be 5
x cannot be 10 then number is more
tring x = 5 we get
125+50+15 = 190
So your number is wrong it has no solution. If the value were 194 then base was 5

I234 in base 5 = 194 in base10, base 6 = 310, and base 7 = 466.
X must not be a non-integer between 6 and 7.
Oh, I get it! Who says it has to be an integer?
You have to solve the polynomial equation 1(x^3) + 2(x^2) + 3(x) + 4 = 384.
It's between 6.5 and 6.6 Anybody know how to solve it other than successive approximation?

The equipment is termed the Arabic equipment.... in spite of the indisputable fact that it really is not any regarded because the course it took to get into Europe ( by skill of Crusades). Origins were traced to India. The 'invention' of 0 '0' became a magnificent step ahead - providing the theory of an 'empty' column.

x-1)x^3+2x^2+3x-380 = 0
125+50+15+4=194
216+72+18+4=310
343+98+21+4=466
no integer radix

x^3+2x^2+3x+4=384
x^3+2x^2+3x-380=0
let f(x)=x^3+2x^2+3x-380
f'(x)=3x^2+4x+3
find x iteratively by
x=x-f(x)/f'(x)
guess at an x (somewhere between 6 & 7).
find f(x)
find f'(x)
claculate a new x=x-f(x)/f'(x)
and plug that back in. keep doing that till you get an answer.
Should converge quickly.

Craig_P got it right.
For those who said the number was wrong, "think just a LITTLE outside your box!"
A number between 6 & 7 solvable only by iteration.....

(1234)x = X^3 + 2X^2 + 3X + 4 =384
3X^3 + 2X^2 +3X – 380=0
X ~= 6.508813
-> Your number is wrong
And here, I have calculated (1234)x for different X
Base Decimal Value
5------------>194
6------------>310
7------------>466
8------------>668
9------------>922
10----------->1234
11----------->1610
12----------->2056
