(1234)x = x^3+2x^2+3x+4 = 384

or x^3+2x^2+3x - 380= 0
x has to be integer as it is base
if has to be factor of 380.
x cannot be < 5
so x may be 5
x cannot be 10 then number is more
tring x = 5 we get
125+50+15 = 190

So your number is wrong it has no solution. If the value were 194 then base was 5

I234 in base 5 = 194 in base10, base 6 = 310, and base 7 = 466.
X must not be a non-integer between 6 and 7.

Oh, I get it! Who says it has to be an integer?

You have to solve the polynomial equation 1(x^3) + 2(x^2) + 3(x) + 4 = 384.

It's between 6.5 and 6.6 Anybody know how to solve it other than successive approximation?

x^3+2x^2+3x+4=384
x^3+2x^2+3x-380=0
let f(x)=x^3+2x^2+3x-380
f'(x)=3x^2+4x+3
find x iteratively by

x=x-f(x)/f'(x)
guess at an x (somewhere between 6 & 7).
find f(x)
find f'(x)
claculate a new x=x-f(x)/f'(x)
and plug that back in. keep doing that till you get an answer.
Should converge quickly.

For those who said the number was wrong, "think just a LITTLE outside your box!"

A number between 6 & 7 solvable only by iteration.....

3X^3 + 2X^2 +3X – 380=0

X ~= 6.508813
-> Your number is wrong
