Metatags are a means of telling search engines about your site.

You have Description, title, keywords and more.

Description is nice because it will show up on the search results instead of randomly taking text off of your website.

Keywords don't mean squat anymore. Sure, it's good to have them and some outdated search engine sites might still use them, but places like google, yahoo, msn, ask.com and more do not rely on keywords anymore as too many webmasters were keyword spamming for unfair placement.

The idea is more on links. If you have more links to your website on the internet, you will have a higher search engine placement. Ask any SEO company and they will tell you the same thing.

There are plenty of ways to get links too, just do a search for reciprocal links (I think I spelled that right :P)

Good luck!
