one word DENIAL. It's human nature to blame something/someone else for their mistakes/problems.
HOWEVER, in some cases, it is genetics (very very very very small percentage though) =)

I hope you came from a family with very good health through good genes. Some people do use genetics as an excuse. I have a 116lb mother that out eats me 5x's to 1. I have Thyroid disease and my dads side of the family was pre-disposed to fat. I am very active yet I am overweight. Yes, I know people who eat constantly and claim they hardly eat at all. The old saying is true though. One or two bad apples don't make the whole bushel rotten. Good luck with good health.

Do they know it for a fact that it is genetic that they are fat or, as you say, just an excuse. Look at their dietary, exercise and life style behavior and you can probably tell if it is really genetic. A person who passes his/her prime, consuming more than 3000 cal a day, with very little exercise and leads a sedentary life would grow fat just a matter of time.

Becuase perhaps there might be a bit of truth to their claim, but I am carrying an extra thirty pounds on my frame, and I know that it is my own eating habits that are to blame for that. I'm not in the genetic-denial collective, but in my case, my family does lean toward heavy, yet my habits are mine, not my family's. If I stop eating dinner an hour before I go to sleep, I would lose weight.

I dont know, but it really makes me angry! I used to be fat, hugely fat, and lost it by exercising every day, and now, suddenly, I know why I used to get teased. Because it is a surprisingly easy thing to change! I used all sorts of excuses, including genetics, big boned, all of those and more. I just didnt like exercise, and loved food. Well, I still love food but now I love exercise too! All you fatties out there, get off your bums! From a former fatty!

Sometimes it is genetics and some people are meant to be a little bigger, but they can still exercise and diet to help maintain that weight. They just have to work at it harder than other people.

You could probably use genetics as an excuse for your stupidity.

It is because they enjoy the food too much too even notice on the main fact and problem is their appetite. They will not give any excuses which directly point to themselves as the sources of problem to their well being.

Because they are lazy and that fits right in the definition of the path of a fat person.
