I'm also in North Texas. I have just a couple of weeks ago put down fertilizer to get through till spring. Check with your local nursery to find the fertilizer mix developed at Texas A&M University. I use the one developed for use in the fall and another one for use in spring to prepare for our long, hot summers--and my St. Augustine lawn does very well.

Good luck, and welcome to Texas!
