The area specifically will be Flushing, Queens. I will be staying in a friends apartment for 10 days but they do not have a working phone line as the apartment stays closed due to their extended absence. They have a dell desktop in the apartment.

If you are only going to be there for ten days I wouldn't think the cost of broadband or cable connections would be worth it. Frankly I would just go to the nearest library and use the internet there. In Texas setting up a cable connection would cost about 120.00 plus 39.95 monthly, in advance. Sattelite service would be out of the question and most of these services require a contract of six months at least. There are lots of ways to get internet without phone service but they all cost more than 10 days would be worth to me.
