I'm glad there are still fans out their who admit that they have completely lost their direction. Black is a fairly enjoyable album, but is so not what they were about. I honestly think that losing Cliff Burton completely changed the band! He wrote so many great bass lines on Master of Puppets and earlier albums, as perhaps as a result, the band's sound changed dramatically and quickly. I know that they will never write a song such as Orion ever again....and that's a little sad. That song, in my opinion is Metallica's greatest moment.

One other thing that I found irritating is that Lars, in a certain interview, did not consider the band to be thrash, as thrash to them, was just thrashing as fast as you could on a guitar's E string, with a few other chords thrown in......and then they go and release the awful St. Anger! All that is thrashing on the E string with the same sounding drums over and over again.....plus James' voice sounds unbelievable strained!!

Oh well, some things just weren't meant to last!

There will never be a follow up to MOP; the bar was set wayyyy to high. No one will ever come close to that ever again. But just because they changed their sound a little doesn't mean they went soft. They always have and always will kick ***. Their new album is expected to be a bit more old school Metallica, and from the two live new songs I've heard so far, this is going to be way better than stanger (which I don't completely hate, by the way.)

I thought ...And Justice For All was great. 'One' was oversold, but the title track is great, and 'Dyer's Eve' just rules. Oh, and I still really like Garage Days Rerevisited, which came in between. The six covers are pretty good, and with only 6, it works.

And then came the black album. In the book, Jump The Shark, this is when the author says it happened. I have to agree. (He says something like "when your sister wants to borrow your Metallica album/CD, you suddenly start questioning the band you've been such a fan of")

I totally agree. Their best albums were Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning, and Kill 'Em All! They went totally soft on the Black album, and have went downhill since!!!!!!!

Metallica went downhill fast this past decade. They need to get their sh*t together and get back to the good stuff.
