In some circumstances it might be.

For example, we take a pretty close look at Hispanic people around the border areas, since 95 percent of illegal aliens are Hispanic. That makes a certain amount of sense.

Stopping a car in a city simply because the people in it are a certain racial group would be wrong unless there was a specific reason to stop the car--such as it matches the description of a stolen vehicle or one involved in an accident and seen to contain that group of people.

Being reasonable is the key phrase. Reasonable racial profiling might make sense, save time, and be quite okay.

It is just good investigative action. It isn't being done to pick on any particular group. It is being done to provide the maximum success.

It is not merely limited to minorities. Prominent examples - when investigating serial killers, the profile looks for white males in their mid 30s. When they investigate shild molestors or kidnappers, they look primarily at te same or slightly older age group.

They aren't doing this to pick on middle age white guys, they just know that this is the typical profile of serial killers. Looking primarily at these suspects increases their chances of capturing people and protecting the public.

Im sure many people would racial profile you if you had an avatar. I bet many people would racial profile you as an african american, its a big part of sociology.

Okay or not, most people do it because that is the way people process information from their individual exposure to their life's encounter. If one goes to New York and experienced the rudenss in the city, one would have a notion that New Yorkers are rude people. Mind you, not all New Yorkers are rule.

No, but sadly with all the terrorists being Middle Easterns...if it quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, you're gonna have to check to see if it's a duck.

In general, no. However it's rather silly that it can be taken so far that police arn't allowed in some places to list a suspects race in a APB.

It should be. If white males in their 30's with blue eyes and blonde hair were disproportionately guilty of crimes between the hours of 10pm and 2am in neighborhood x, then I think extra attention should be paid to that population in neighborhood x between 10pm and 2am.
