I recently have taken up boxing as a sport but when I punch my wrists hurt so much. I dont know if it could have anything to do with the fact that I type a lot and have been for years. Does anyone know why I might be hurting?

You have to build up to punching hard. Even when your wrists are taped, you still are not used to punching. Every punch you land compresses your wrist and causes slight swelling. Train the muscles in the wrist by exercising them by squeezing tennis balls and doing wrist curls with a dumbbell.

I'm sure that your trainer is taping your wrists so I would reccomend that you get it checked out. If its fine then you probably just need to condition it to the riggors of punching the heavy bag more.

It could be your metacarples weakening. See a doctor if the pain gets worse. In the meantime, take a break from boxing for a while.
