In 1659,Robinson Crusoe was shipwrecked on a small island off the coast of South America, with no food and no tools. He lived there for 27 years. This story was an inspiration to me. Robinson Crrusoe loved adventure and so do I. He didn't like the quiet life, but instead sought excitement. I think that we can learn something from this story, such as hoe to build a house, learn to grow corn and so on. These are usefuk, interesting and quiet basic things!Having the odd adventure also teaches us not to be afraid and how to keep calm.

I also admired the character of Ronbinson Crusoe. I thought that he was incredible because he could build a house without having to use nails, only wood! He learnt to make porcelain and boats as well.He was a very clever man who learned to live alone... and surive.

Another part that interested me was that Crusoe found a box of money and gold on the uninhabited island and thought he was a rich man until he realised what it really meant:" What use is money to me? I couldn't buy anything with it . I want people, a friend."

This is true. Money cannot replace everything.

It may be of interest to know that Robinson Crusoe is not entirely fiction. On a voyage around the Cape, a soldier argued with the captain regarding the best method of sailing, and eventually insisted on being put ashore at the next available opportunity. He was definitely a Scot, and if I recall correctly he was called Irvine/Irving.
He was eventually recovered by a passing ship 4 years later, but could not readjust to life in Edinburgh, so set sail again. He became a respected ships captain and died at sea.
Still, it's a good book.

Though Robinson Crusoe was a fictional character I was astonished by his ability to survive on a deserted island for 28 years.
He adapted to he hard circumstances of life and succeeded in building his own house, farming and even making a friend.
Not only he never gave up hope, but also he learned a lot - tried, explored, wrote doew all his achievements, kept his clear mind, strong will power and good spirit.
Very inspirational example for me - I don't know if I could survive in the same situation!

It took me into the island with Robinson crusoe. I felt the sufferings of Crusoe and I lived in that island with him in psyche. Very good narration and a vivid description.

I've never read this. I do like it. I have a deep affection for the elderly. My grandparents, though mean as all get out, told the best stories. I love the line "To trade those fevers for tranquility". How true! I look forward to it. Thank you for sharing this.x.

I loved it, and have sought out other survival stories to read since then. Reading them shows me the strength of the human will to survive.
