Are Catholics completely nuts?
You tell people humans came from a magic garden with an "apple tree of sin" growing in it. You belive people speak different languages because people tried to build a tower to heaven and god got mad. Then you tell people that one man built a boat the size of a 10 aircraft carriers (win no nails or power tools) and put one of every animal on earth on it while god flooded th. Paul Bunyon and Steve Irwin would have loved this guy. Your ancestors crusaded around murdering millions of people, spitting on your own crosses, warship severed heads, and preforming sick sexual acts. Your trusted priests are so convinced that homo$exuality is a choice they r@pe and molest thousands of boys in secrecy, not knowing how to confront their (obviously) unchosen affliction. Not to mention, you tell people who were borned and raised a different religon they will burn in a fire for the rest of time? .. There is good message being distorted.

The Catholic Church does not take the story of creation in the Bible literally. Catholics believe it tells religious truth not historical fact.

The religious truth is that God created everything and declared all was good.

The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.

As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.

With love in Christ.

First you should read the Bible a little better your facts are wrong. As for the crusades, yes they were wrong, but I don't think anyone will try to convince you they were right. As for the few priests who did those unspeakable crimes, they should have been punished as soon as their actions came to the attention of those in charge, but it didn't. Nothing can be done about that now and no one in the Catholic Church feels in any way that what they done or how it was handled was okay! I was not born into the Church so I was not raised "Be Catholic or burn in hell!" I do know many do believe that the Catholic Church is the only true religion and the only way to get to heaven. I also know even more, including myself, that believe there are many ways to get to God, even outside the Catholic Church. And no we are not nuts!! You are going to find bad people everywhere. I know of plenty Protestant Churches and school systems who have had these same scandals! Majority of pedophiles are married men. Does this fact make all married men pedophiles? NO, not all priests are pedophiles and not all teachers sleep with their students!

In answer to your question:
Catholics - yes
Christians - no
Now, for those who don't know, Christianity can be broken down into one simple rule: Do good, be good, and help others. (basically speaking)
Catholicism is completely different. It is more closely relate to Judaism than the words and teachings of Jesus. Don't believe me? Look at the "Old Testament." That part of the bible is a bastardized (and horribly translated) version of the jewish holy text. The Jews at the time, not beliving in an afterlife, saw the needs of everyday life as being the most important thing. In Jesus' view, this lead to extreme materialism and was not the best thing for humanity.
So, to wrap this up:
Jesus' death and resurrection + hidding eggs = crazy Catholics.

I agree with you, dude. Hell, I guess it might be legal to start the Church of Santa and the Easter Bunny, I was thinking about. Collect some of that tax-free money the other story-tellers are preaching these days. (Pay no attention to the others here criticizing you for using Yahoo Answers to vent your thoughts. This Q & A forum was designed to accept almost ALL questions that are on people's minds.)

Agreed. There is a good message being distorted.

If you have questions about Christianity, we owe it to you to give you straight answers.

You're right in many ways, but not so in others. There is a lot of ugly history to answer for. Rest assured, God will sort out the Christians from the self-righteous posers.

Can you ask other questions and be more specific, please?

Nice monologue, but not a real question. You intellectual types just can't seem to understand the concept. You think YA is just a place for you to vent your vitreous spleens and air your bullsh!t, brainwashed opinion.

i urge you to get your facts straight before you badger an entire religion, one that has been established longer than almost all others. you are very nearsighted and ignorant towards what is really going on and reading the Bible could help you, not to mention praying to God. stop believing the twisted media in all their misguided newscasts.
