Look at the processor. The best two processor's are Intel's Core 2 Processor or AMD's Turion 64 X2. Either of these will make for a really good laptop. You will usually find these only in up-class laptops.

The things I look for, hard size, how much memory (at least 512mb, more is better), does it have a CD-r/DVD player, wireless, and how long does the battery last (lithium ion the best).

The next thing I would ask you is, Are you going to run Windows or you going to run Linux?

You need to see the Configuration,Wheather it is upgradable,

RAM Configuration,What Processor Intel or Celeron or AMD
Weight of the Laptop and the Warranty
