non-self is absence of any ego - just your pure essence - no 'materialistic identifiers' such as income, status, physical features, occupation, etc. just being who you are at this moment - in the now/present; selfless is acting without any regards to yourself, having compassion for others. without-self is essentially the same as non-self.

Livegreen- i beg to differ. . a person may be without self by over-coming his self , but still remain a member of the self type rather than the non-self type, such as rocks and trees etc.
So there is a distinction between non-self and without self.

a selfless thing is usually something, such as a person, that ordinarily has a self but has conquered it to be less selfish and less egotistical in thoughts and behviors. A rock or a tree may be without self but never selfless in the way the word is intended to be used. words have uses and are invented for expression of concepts etc, they are more than their literal definitions

the existence of living being is self-oriented.hence non-self or with out self does not arise..the only difference is the feeling of mine. that is 'mine' in feeling. everything of the existence of living being depends upon the feeling of 'mine'.
