Rental housing and apartment costs are a perfect example of how the government can find themselves in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation - especially in a free market system.

With very noble intentions, the government determined that low wage earners needed a little help in order to afford a decent place to live.

They initiated Section 8 to provide rent subsidies for low income workers.
And as soon as the landlords got wind that the government was paying the rent - the rates no longer needed to be competitive with what people could really afford - and apartments didn't have to stay unoccupied while waiting for a tenant.
You remember, these are the guys that buy $300 hammers and $250 ashtrays - and the present rent structure proves they should just stay the hell out of the market place.

With the cost of property and apartments, there is a big problem with finding a decent priced place. Working hard is what most people have to do just to keep the places they have right now. Its just the age we live in that hard workers have problems.

Where on earth do you live? Here we have wonderful new apartment buildings.. many with pools and clubs. They are clean and well kept. They are very reasonable priced for what all you get. If you are a big city mouse... MOVE out and move south...
