I'm doing a project about how butts get bad odors I need to know how and why they get bad odors??

Anus odor happens by the food that digest inside of you it rotts then it turns into fece.

...well...uhm you could use common knowledge and don't really need research..butts smell because of what comes out of them...feces. Now for the science you could break down the components of feces. No matter how well you wipe you will not get all the fecal matter off the anus...if your butt is really hairy then you can get some small amount left in the hair (this is why some folks shave that region...cleaner...less fecal matter).
Also any dark, warm, moist place will brood odor causing bacteria...much like the arm pits. Now add to that the bacteria loaded fecal matter and you've got a breeding pot ripe with soup of nasties. Any hair in one of these kinds of areas will hold this moist soup and preven it from drying quickly. (this is why some folks, included me, shave arm pit hair...less hair less odor...it works for me)
It's pretty much those two...normal odor causing bacteria and fecal matter.
I knew a guy that didn't shave much...poor hygein...oh he stunk...cause of the sweat and poor ...wiping...

I presume you mean from farting...in which case it is caused by the types of food you eat. Gas is caused by fibre, starch and some complex sugars that aren't easily digested. They're fermented by bacteria in the colon, producing hydrogen, methane and hydrogen sulphide gases. These gases are expelled as wind.
Baked beans are the worst for producing wind. It seems they're a deadly combination of fibre and complex sugars — two of the three biggest wind producers. They pass straight to the colon, where the bacteria think it's party time.

well one thing is that they are use for doing the number 2 and if there not wipe good then the odor will be there.

Personal Hygiene not the best of the individual.....another place where smells can start if the area is not cleaned when required which can lead to other health issue

Because of what comes out of rectum, hello, it stinks, and will only get worse if not cleaned properly.
