Can anyone tell if it is standard and required by the state of Illinois that a Behavioral Plan be part of an IEP? Or is it just an optional additional document done? I was under the impression that if a childs behavior impedes his own or others learning abilities, that it was a required PART of the IEP, not an additional document.

This is for an Emotional distirb student.

I am not a teacher in Illinois...I teach in a different state. However, when and if behavior is a problem and if its impeding a child's learning abilities we have to look at it and address it with a behavioral plan that's worked on by teachers, spc. ed personnel, counselor, principal AND parents (basically anyone present at IEP's). Yes, it is an additional document but how does anyone expect this child to learn if simple things like his behavior are not addressed? If the child is suffering from emotional pain, etc. we also work on a Mental Health Referral for this student. In order to help them succeed we need to give them all the help they need right?
